I haven’t made a post in about 200 years, but I’m here😭
I’m in a special print on clay workshop this semester, and this is this is the screenprint project we did. We’re having an exhibition showing our class’s work, and this was my piece in the show! I’m very proud with how it turned out🥰

This was a very somber and personal piece for me. It’s about these two characters falling out after having a once intimate and close relationship. I had a very long title for it at the show, but I might rename it “Fallout” it’s more succinct.

I enjoyed the form I made. I made it so you can stack it as you read the narrative and I like how it looks.

Definitely go see the show if you can, everyone has beautiful work. We had our opening today, and I think it’s up for another week 🩷

Thanks to my professors @dnmldaniel and @fieldingform for all their instruction 😊 by @night.neko

Little blinking/crying animation I just finished😻😻😻
This is the 2nd time I tried to animate a project, and I think it came out really cute 🥰
BTW do you guys like the version with or without the blinking better???

I made this animation to kinda just express how I’ve been feeling lately. The world just in general is just so problematic and tumultuous rn. The area I live is being overrun with COVID (again) as well as in many parts of the world😢. I also have some personal stuff that is bumming me out too, and it’s all, just a lot right now😖.
If you are also experiencing similar feelings, I’m here to say that’s it’s completely okay to not feel okay, especially with things being as chaotic as they are right now😓.

Be gentle on yourselves, Nekos.😽

This is almost 3 hours of shading and lighting work condensed into 30 seconds so, yeah….
Anyway, this was truly a learning experience. I started using Procreate just a little over a week ago, so I’m still very much a beginner, and I have SO much too learn about digital art.🎨
I made a lot of missteps in this piece, especially with the background being on the same layer as the line art😓
BUT I worked through those issues anyway, and I’m happy with the final result😻

🍾🔮“Drinking, Not Drunk”🔮🍾
Here’s my finished piece! I drew the line art on Photoshop, and then I colored, shaded, and added the background in Procreate. 🎨
Let me tell you about it:
This work depicts a character of mine. He is a #nekomata which is a kind of yokai (or creature from Japanese folklore) that is catlike, has a split or “forked” tail, and supernatural abilities. They were also thought to be mischievous and made trouble in towns and villages.
😼😼😼😼😼
I wanted to include these aspects of the legends in this piece. For instance, one of their abilities is thought to be shape-shifting, which is why his left arm (the one holding the bottle) is more human like than the other, which looks more like a paw😻😻😻
Obviously, he has a forked tail, and he is partaking in some “forbidden” drinking of some enchanted alcohol in a tavern….very mischievous 😋

I hope you enjoyed my little illustration, and I also hope you enjoyed learning about the nekomata😊 These creatures have fascinated me for nearly a decade, and if you would like to read more stories and folklore, there are plenty on Google 🔮

Thank you nekos again, and have a lovely day❤️ (btw, neko means “cat” and -mata means “forked,” so nekomata translates to “forked cat” in Japanese).

*Character Line Art Process*
So, before I go ahead and show the final results of my latest piece, I wanted to show you nekos the process I used for drawing/designing the line art from the last post. So, let’s begin!😻😻😻
I learned this character design process from the #domestika course I’ve been taking with @thomasrohlfs for dynamic character design. Basically, you start with your reference picture and identify its line of action and basic shapes. The teacher suggested that you draw over the image first to find those shapes before you start the sketch, and I found that to be really helpful.
✍️✍️✍️
You can probably see how my first sketch is the least detailed (heck, the two first sketches barely resemble the final line art), and then it continues to get refined.
🎨🎨🎨🎨
With all that being said, I am by no means an expert in character designing, and my process and art style differ greatly from Thomas’s. But I put this out there just in case YOU are someone interested in character design and want a little inspiration before you get started. Anyway, I hope this encourages you, and if you read this far, tysm! This was kinda a long post….😹

WIP for a character design that I’m doing!😻
This is just some line art and block coloring that I made in photoshop, and now I’m going to color and shade it in Procreate
🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨
Normally I really don’t like my line art too much and therefore I don’t share it until it’s colored and shaded, but this one is an exception. It looks kinda like a paper cutout with toned paper to me, even though it’s digital, and I love that💕😊
Anyway, I’ll be talking more about the artwork itself in the coming posts, but until then, stay creative Nekos😻

Illustration with @artezaofficial watercolor markers and pastels! 😻One day I was looking out my window, and I saw vines that looked like music notes, so that’s what I drew!

“Is It July Already?!”
Here’s my inked drawing that I’m using for my July front page in my bullet journal (yes, I keep a BuJo😺).

I had the idea of a girl reaching out her hand and having a radial-ish pattern for her hair, so that’s what I did😻

Also, it’s in a more illustrative/anime style than my usual realistic style, and I’m probably going to keep working at improving this new style in my art, at least for a bit.

Hope u Nekos enjoyed it! I also made a TikTok of my inking process, if you’re interested!

My final project for my 2D class😻 I had to tell a story through an artwork, so I chose to illustrate the story of me and my kitty, Mimi!😸I just wanted to show us on a typical day😊

I had to use strictly graphite pencil for this project, which was a little out of my comfort zone, but I enjoyed the process anyway (I used @dalerrowney1783 pencils btw). I made a TikTok of shading my cat, and I included it in this post if you are curious about my process.
✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️
Well, that’s my finals from this semester’s art classes. I’m going to be starting summer classes in a couple of days, so we’ll see how that goes 📕📖📓📚📒

My Abstracting Reality final project for my Drawing II class. We had to pick an architectural place and make it abstract, so I chose the #washuduc @wustl_official . For me, the architecture there was so inspiring😻 My theme was dreams, which is why I turned it into this misty, atmospheric landscape 🌕☁️
🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑☁️🌒🌓🌔🌙
Abstraction has always been challenging for me, so this piece was kinda stressful. As I progressed through it and added my favorite #artistsloft pastels, I got more comfortable with it. I also used @artezaofficial watercolor markers for the railing and ceiling details.
🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨
In the end, pretty proud of this one. Even though it’s abstract, it’s also atmospheric and illustrative, the way I like it😸

“Repline in the Library”

Here’s a school project I finished a few weeks ago. I had to invent a new animal or add something to an existing one, so I decided to draw a repline, which is a dragon-cat that is from a book I’m writing. I have been wanting to draw this beast for a while, and this assignment gave me the opportunity to do that. I’m pretty happy with it!
😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
I used gray scale pastels from #artistsloft and charcoal pencils from @generalpencil . If you want to see my process for this piece, you can go to my TikTok @night.neko and see how I finished the floor and wall engravings.

I’m hoping to be posting some more school projects within the next few days. I had some final pieces that I just finished, so hopefully I’ll be posting those😊

My self-portrait diptych for Drawing II. I chose to focus on hiding my feelings in the red portrait, and then revealing those feelings in the second drawing.
🖌🖍🖌
I used an under-painting technique where I first applied a watercolor wash and then covered it with pastels from #artistsloft and pastel pencils from @fabercastellglobal
✍️😻
This was my first attempt at drawing a portrait, so I’m really happy with how it turned out.
