Allow me to re-introduce myself! My name is Rio, R-to-the-I-O ✨

I am the lady boss behind Night of the Living Pets! I am a pure bred Valley girl, a Leo and a cat mom of two. I am lover of Halloween and Disney. I thoroughly enjoy jumping out of planes, with a parachute of course! I’ve been skydiving 8 times and want to do it a million times more. Hockey is my favorite sport and you can catch me on the Jumbotron at any LA Kings game wearing my Bailey (the lion mascot) hat. Being in nature and traveling fuels my soul. Oh, and I am the biggest extrovert.

My love for animals started at a very young age. I grew up with an iguana, a cat, a Scottish Terrier, a Husky and a German Shepard. When I was a kid, I told my parents I wanted to be a singing veterinarian. All wanted to do was take care of animals and make them feel better. Once I realized that a singing vet wasn’t a real profession AND that I couldn’t sing, I knew I had to figure out another way to be surrounded by pets forever. Since you’re reading this, looks like I found a way 😉

Meet @rio_tanika , the human behind Night of the Living Pets 🐾 and your pet’s new BFF! by @nightofthelivingpets

Closing out the year with just a tiny peek at some of the many fur-iends @rio_tanika had the absolute joy of caring for in 2025 🥹🐾

Rio isn’t just the owner of Night of the Living Pets— she’s the heart, the hugs and the extra treats behind it all. Every single day, she gets to love on, spoil and bond with the pets who make this job so special. She even reads every single update from the spooky squad because seeing happy pets (and fun adventures) truly fills her heart.

This year was made of early mornings, long walks, surprise check-ins, playtime breaks, cozy slumber parties and a whole lot of trust. We are endlessly grateful to every pet parent who welcomed us into their homes, trusted us with their beloved little weirdos and referred us to their family/friends.

Here’s to another year of wagging tails, judgmental stares, soft purrs and the kind of connections that remind us this work is about so much more than just a job…it’s an unforgettable experience. 🖤✨

WHO DID IT BETTER: RIO VS. THE PETS? 💅🏻

It’s spooky season, which means the claws are OUT.

Rio spent good money getting her nails done by @tptee.88, only to have her clients show up with a fresh set of their own. THE AUDACITY.

So let’s settle this. Who’s got the better claws? Rio or the pets? 🤔

Drop your vote below! 👇🏼

Multiple suspects have been caught lurking in bushes, hiding behind furniture and peeping around corners. 👀

Witnesses describe the suspects as suspiciously adorable and extremely motivated by treats.

The best part about dog walks in October? 🐾

THE DECORATIONS. 🎃👻

Every walk is a Halloween sightseeing tour and every decorated house is a photo op. 📸🏚️

We work with animals for a living. It takes a LOT to scare us. 😱

But every now and then, a client says something that sends a little chill down our spine. 💀

Pet sitters, you already know. 👀

We’ll let the memes speak for themselves. 😂

Some people decorate for Halloween.

Rio becomes Halloween. 🎃💀

Costumes are out. Makeup artist is booked. Normalcy will resume sometime in November.

Maybe. 🖤👻

Got any ideas on what she should be this year? Tell us in the comments.

A little t h r o w b a c k from July when we celebrated the spooky queen herself! 👻👑 🥳

Thank you, Rio, for creating the kind of place where the work is about so much more than walks and drop-ins. It’s about the epic sitter group chat, the endless adorable photo dumps, constantly being covered in pet hair and a l w a y s showing up for each other.

What started with just a leash and a dream has become something pretty freakin’ magical! ✨

None of this would exist without you! 💜🐾
