Soft power has traditionally sat with major cultural institutions, but much of what builds belonging, experimentation and social cohesion starts elsewhere: in clubs, music scenes and community spaces, often at night. From Berlin to London, institutions and subcultures are increasingly meeting each other, museums hosting club nights, galleries working with DJs, festivals blending art, music and social practice. This panel asks what changes when nightlife is recognised not just as entertainment but as cultural infrastructure in its own right, and under what conditions these exchanges become genuinely reciprocal. Drawing on examples from Berlin and London, the conversation looks at how nightlife’s lessons in hospitality, care and collective experience might shape more resilient cities after dark.

🌍 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞

A new global network of cities dedicated to the night-time economy has officially launched.

Born from the experience of the European Union’s URBACT Cities After Dark network, Global Cities After Dark brings cities and urban innovators together to share knowledge, address common challenges and build better ways of governing the night.

The night-time economy generates an estimated $3–4 trillion a year, around 3% of global GDP, and employs roughly one in ten people worldwide. Yet it remains largely absent from mainstream policy and investment.

Together, we can change that. 🏙️🤝

The initiative is a partnership between the Nighttime Foundation and the City of Braga.

Cosa hai costruito perché le persone possano stare bene, sentirsi più sicure e libere di essere se stesse?

Se credi che la cura sia il modo in cui teniamo in vita la scena, questo post è per te.

NightFlows cerca collettivə e organizzazioni in tutta Europa che costruiscono cura negli spazi della vita notturna, con un focus sulla scena della musica elettronica.

Il progetto raccoglie ciò che è stato costruito per il benessere delle persone negli spazi della vita notturna e mira a nominare questo lavoro come conoscenza. Rileviamo quali siano i bisogni e le preoccupazioni attuali di coloro che sono in prima linea.

Molto poco di tutto ciò è documentato e compreso, a oggi. Troppo spesso è sottofinanziato e non riconosciuto. NightFlows lo sta mappando: il suo obiettivo è documentare le esperienze nel loro contesto e dar loro il riconoscimento che meritano come conoscenza, costruita da persone che hanno un interesse diretto nella notte, sollevando tensioni e necessità.

NightFlows lo sta mappando.

Un team di awareness. Un protocollo di consenso. Un modo di organizzare il trasporto a casa. Un processo di selezione che protegge la tua comunità. Qualcosa che non hai mai visto chiamare pratica di cura, ma che sai che lo è.

This is care. It already exists.

NightFlows maps it, talking directly with the people and collectives who built these practices. Documenting who, how, and where. Building a picture of what exists to make the night a place of wellbeing, so it can be seen and recognised.
