I sent mailers. Cold. No connections, no following, no guarantee anyone would scan that QR code.
But I did it anyway.
And that’s how I found my first business.
Not an app. Not a viral post. Just effort, a stack of envelopes, and believing that showing up consistently would eventually pay off — and it did.
My wife and I built this together. From that first mailer campaign to real financial freedom. And if there’s one thing I’d tell every couple out there trying to build something: the algorithm won’t save you. The work will.
This video breaks down exactly what I did — the mailers, the video they led to, and how a simple QR code turned into a business.
Watch it. Steal the strategy. Build with your partner.

I wasn’t ready. I signed anyway.

The only thing that got me to the table was believing the future version of me would figure it out.

Not the current me — he was scared. Running worst-case scenarios at 11pm. Full of questions he couldn’t answer yet.

BUT the future me? He could handle it. I just had to trust him enough to start.

Here’s what that actually looked like:

→ Signing before I felt completely ready — because ready never fully shows up
→ Trusting that hard problems have solutions I just hadn’t found yet
→ Choosing the discomfort of growth over the comfort of standing still
→ Betting that who I was becoming was worth the risk who I was had to take

HOWEVER — there were days I wondered if I’d trusted the wrong guy.

He showed up every time.

The scared version of you today is not the permanent version of you. Bet on who you’re becoming.

Here’s what nobody tells you when you’re both grinding in a niche profession:

Your expertise is a moat. Your competition can’t touch you because you actually understand the industry. That’s not just a job skill — that’s a business acquisition superpower.

Here’s what buying a business together actually gave us:

→ Two incomes became one growing asset
→ Our professional knowledge found deals outsiders completely miss
→ We stopped hitting someone else’s ceiling and started building our own equity
→ We gave our kids something to inherit, not just a retirement account
→ We started building a life on our terms, not our employer’s

HOWEVER — it’s not all smooth. There are scary days. Hard conversations. Real risk.

BUT the alternative was both of us grinding forever and wondering what if.

We stopped wondering. Blueprint in bio.

Here’s what owning a business actually changed for me:

→ I stopped dreading Mondays — because Mondays belong to me now
→ I stopped asking permission to take time off — I just go
→ I stopped wondering if I’d ever get ahead — because now I’m building equity, not just earning income
→ I stopped feeling stuck — because even on hard days, I’m moving toward something I own
→ I started showing up differently for my family — present, not just physically there
→ I started thinking in years, not paychecks — that shift alone is worth everything
→ I started believing the life I wanted wasn’t reserved for other people
→ I started having real conversations with my wife about what we’re building — not just surviving the month
→ I started waking up with a reason that felt like mine

HOWEVER — I won’t lie to you. There are terrifying days. Days where the numbers don’t cooperate and the doubt gets loud.

BUT even on those days, I have something I never had before: a reason to keep going that I built myself.

That’s what this is really about. Not the income. The hope that comes from knowing you’re in the game — not just watching it.

If you’ve ever felt stuck and wondered if there was another way — there is. And I want to be the person who helps you find it.

There are days this life genuinely scares me — payroll, slow months, a sprained wrist that tanks your income overnight. Nobody warns you about 6am with a bad number staring back at you.

BUT I also pick my daughter up from school because I decided to. I take a Tuesday off without asking permission. I built something, and I can see it.

More income, more time, more ownership over my life than any job ever gave me. More risk too — I won’t pretend otherwise.

If you’re stuck in the grind and wondering if there’s another way, I’ve been exactly where you are. I want to be the sounding board I never had.

DMs open. Blueprint in bio. You don’t have to figure this out alone.

When my wife and I got married, our net worth was about -$6,000 and we thought if we just worked hard enough we’d get ahead. We picked up extra shifts, lived lean, and for a moment it felt like we were making progress, but then life hit. Our car engine blew and we had to borrow money just to get a reliable vehicle, and not long after that we started dental school and the debt started stacking fast. -$50K turned into -$100K, then over -$300K, and it looked like we were going backwards. But that season wasn’t failure, it was investment. The real shift happened when we stopped thinking like employees trying to get back to zero and started thinking like owners. That led us to take a massive risk and acquire a $1.2M business with essentially no money down, and yeah—it was uncomfortable. The risk is real. But what gave us conviction was that it’s a 25-year established practice with a track record, real patients, and real cash flow. It’s not a guess, it’s a proven asset. And so far, that stability has held. It’s given us the ability to generate income at a level we never could before and start aggressively attacking the debt that actually matters—the kind that isn’t backed by anything, like student loans. Instead of just treading water, we’re finally making real progress. Most people spend their lives trying to avoid risk, but we realized the bigger risk was staying stuck. We’re still in the middle of the journey, but now we have momentum, and for the first time it feels like we’re actually in control of where this goes. #business #couplegoals #entrepreneur #financialfreedom #fyp taken in Holladay, Utah by @nikdiederich

Most people say they want a better life.

But a better life rarely comes from comfort.

It comes from hard conversations.
From taking risks.
From discipline when you’d rather take the easy route.
From choosing growth even when it’s uncomfortable.

A few years ago I realized I didn’t want to spend my life just clocking in and watching my kids grow up from the sidelines.

So I took a risk and bought a business.

Was it comfortable? Not even close.
More responsibility. More pressure. More problems to solve.

But also more meaning, more ownership, and more opportunity to build the life I actually want for my family.

Now I’m doing it again.

And this time I’m sharing the whole journey — the wins, the lessons, and the mistakes — as it’s happening.

Comfort keeps you where you are.
Growth changes your life.

I used to hate thinking about my future.

Wake up.
Go to work.
Repeat for the next 40 years.

It felt like my life was already decided.

So I tried something different.

I decided to buy a business.

Not through a broker.
Not through some fancy connection.

Just brute force.

Cold emails.
Cold letters.
Calling owners directly.

Most ignored me.
Some said no.
A few laughed.

My first deal collapsed and I lost $9,600 trying.

That hurt.

But I kept doing the same thing.

More letters.
More calls.
More conversations.

Eventually one owner replied.

That conversation turned into a deal.

And suddenly something changed in my life.

Every decision mattered.
Every improvement mattered.
The future I used to dread suddenly felt like mine to build.

Here’s the thing most people don’t realize:

You don’t need permission to buy a business.

You don’t need a broker.

You don’t need some perfect MBA strategy.

Sometimes you just need grit and repetition.

Find owners.
Reach out directly.
Do the grunt work.

Most people won’t.

That’s exactly why it works.

The best investment I ever made wasn’t money.

It was trying again when the first deal failed.
