All-Star Weekend 💫 with @jumpman23 and @jdsportsus. What an incredible weekend! A peak behind the curtain:

Hyyer Creative was brought on to execute a Live Photo activation for the girls of Inglewood High School. With the intention of making them feel seen, the photo activation served as the final moment in an experience centered around creativity, self-expression, and possibility.

Following charm and jewelry customization, gifting opportunities, and a conversation with collegiate athletes, each girl stepped into our installation and into her own spotlight. Guided by their very own movement coach, portraits were captured, edited, and delivered in real time.

Kai & Ronan wrapped up their last week of summer with the ultimate LA adventure thanks to their amazing aunts! 💛
Their aunt Bianca flew with them out to California to visit their aunt Niki and they went all out. Universal Studios, the Funko Pop store, the Netflix store, a Tesla restaurant, a pickle bar (aka- pickle heaven 🥒), they went to the beach and did a lot of other fun touristy stuff. They got spoiled with experiences and got quality time with two of their favorite people. Talk about the coolest aunts ever! 😎It was the perfect last big hoorah before school started and they already want to go back.

One year ago today, I heard the word that shattered my world—

Cancer.

Kai woke up in the middle of the night with unbearable leg pain. By morning, he couldn’t walk and had a slew of strange symptoms. My dad cradled him and carried him to his truck and laid him across the backseat because sitting up hurt too much. I was terrified but convinced it was meningitis.

At the hospital, I overheard a nurse say, “5% abnormality on his blood test.” I had no idea what it meant, but I stayed off Google and waited. Then the doctor took me into another room. I was bracing for the word meningitis. Instead, I heard cancer. Leukemia. It felt like someone grabbed me by the throat. The air left my lungs. I gasped, shook my head, and spiraled. Thinking…”My baby has cancer. My baby could die. Cancer means death.”
Death was the one word stuck in my head.

The first person I called wasn’t Kai’s dad, wasn’t my husband….it was my dad. Through sobs…I cried out “They said he has cancer.” On the other end, I heard him break: “Oh my God…” Maybe I called him because he had always been my person that fixed things…the one who made things better. But this? This couldn’t be fixed.

I FaceTimed Kai’s dad so he could hear the diagnosis from the doctor. He stayed so calm while I was falling apart. But looking back, I know—he was spiraling too. He just held it differently.

That day, our lives changed forever. We had no idea what this diagnosis would bring….the fear, the pain, the strength we’d have to find. But here we are….one year later, and Kai is THRIVING.

Cancer completely shook our world, but it did not break us.

Kai received an epic gift this weekend with a special shoutout from @svddendeath himself! Over the past year and a half, Kai’s really found himself in the EDM/riddim/dubstep world, and Svdden Death has quickly become one of his favorites. Whether it’s on long car rides, heading to chemo, or just listening to his tunes during outpatient appointments, Kai finds his happiness and energy in those heavy bass tracks (just like his dad).

Special thanks to his Bianca Foi and her wonderful friend, Miku, for making this dream moment come true. I don’t exactly know how she did it, but she pulled some strings for our Kai bug. A personal message and even a custom song from Svdden Death! Being only 8, Kai is still processing the weight of how incredible this surprise really is, but seeing one of his favorite musicians give him a personal shoutout made his day. Acts of kindness like these mean the world to our family and give Kai that extra motivation to stay strong through everything. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who made this happen—it truly means everything.

6 months ago today, our sweet Kai was hospitalized and our lives have changed forever. More importantly, his life has changed and turned upside down. Cancer has stolen so much from him, but it will never steal his spirit. He’s my 1/2 of my entire heart (other half is his brother Ronan) and all I want is to make sure he is happy and as comfortable as he can be.

Thank you for everyone who has continued to lift those spirits and make him feel supported 💖

We thought we were going for chemo today, but Kai gets a little bit of a break this week. He got his routine bloodwork done to check his counts and unfortunately his immune system has plummeted from so many rounds of chemo, like dangerously low. With such a low ANC, this means that Kai is extremely susceptible to infection right now. The doc says that his red and white blood cell counts still look good, so hopefully that will be what helps his body fight off any potential infection that may come his way despite the low immune system. With him getting a break from chemo and meds this week, hopefully his ANC will recover in time for chemo next week. The last half of July is going to be extremely busy for us, with Kai going to clinic four days a week. Please pray that he doesn’t get sick or catch any infections throughout the tail end of this treatment phase; this is the first time his immune system has tanked like this. He’s such a strong kid and has done amazing through all of his phases of treatment, I’m hoping we can finish this one strong like all of the others. 🦸🏽‍♂️🎗️🧡

What a typical clinic day looks like for us. Today Kai’s appointment went pretty quick. He got two different chemo’s, one of them being doxorubicin AKA “Red Devil” chemo…nicknamed for its color and awful side effects. This was our 3rd appointment over the past 7 days. Clinic days are draining for us, second to procedure days (those are the worst.) Kai’s counts looked fantastic today so we’re going to go on a little road trip for some R&R this weekend. 🧡

Life looks a little different for our family now. Suddenly, the things I stressed about aren’t so important anymore. My mindset and priorities in life have completely shifted.

All I can keep thinking is… why him? He’s so young to battle with something so cruel. My perfect nephew is only 7. But he’s the bravest of us all.

Within this last week, he’s already had to grow up so quickly. He’s quickly adapting to the rules of his new life, and learning the rules on how those around him can keep him safe.

Thank you for those of you who have reached out and come to visit him. To those asking how you can help, we don’t know yet. We still have a ton to navigate through, but you can start by keeping Kai and my brother in your prayers.

After 10 days and 3 rounds of chemo (out of God knows how many more), Kai was released from the hospital today. We are in no ways clear - we still have a 2 year battle ahead of us, but we have to take it day by day and celebrate one milestone at a time. taken in Fort Worth, Texas by @niki.p4
