Combination of Mamiya 645 + Laowa 1.33 Anamorphic Adapter + Kodak Portra 400 = goosebumps

I never thought this was possible, but apparently it is. Yes, it’s difficult to nail the focus, but if you do, the result is so beautiful.

When you de-squeeze Mamiya’s 6×4.5 frame, you get a panoramic 8×4.5 aspect ratio with lots of resolution and beautiful natural flares. Damn magic

A variable ND filter uses two polarizing layers. Rotate one relative to the other, and you control how much light reaches your camera.

But simply stacking two CPLs isn’t enough—the front one, farther from the camera, needs to be flipped backward.

Why use a VND? Adjust exposure without changing your shutter speed, aperture, or ISO. Keep your motion blur and soft backgrounds in bright sunlight—or shoot longer exposures for photos.

What about reflections? Some VNDs also affect reflections on glass and water. Others minimize that effect by design. So using polarization doesn’t automatically make a VND a replacement for your CPL.

There’s no single “correct” shutter speed—it depends on the look you want.

The 180° rule is a great starting point, not a creative limit.

Slow shutter speed → more motion blur, emphasizing movement.
180° rule → natural-looking motion for cinematic storytelling.
Fast shutter speed → crisp, punchy motion. Great for fast-paced action and water.
