Q3 was full of quality time spent with friends, concerts, reading on the beach, cooking and eating outside, making art, writing, swimming, traveling, and yearning. Salt on skin, on lips, on pretzels. Flower-gazing, and sun bathing, and moon worshipping. Voice note debriefs and FaceTime body-doubling. Ice cream sundaes and sunflowers. Beachykisses had a perfect summer.

What’s in my bag: Flower petals from the cherry blossom tree outside and the first roses of the season. Boarding passes—always the window seat—to Tuscaloosa, to Tampa, to Peoria, to Nashville, to Daytona, to home. Knicks in 5. Rental car keys. Ten apples left behind in the Airbnb fridge that I couldn’t let go to waste. M&Ms bag, Costco-sized. A plastic wand that flashes lights when you wave it. Lavender from Sarah’s backyard. Plant cuttings from KT. Concert ticket stubs. A book I’m about to finish and a book I’ve just started and two books I picked up in a free pile on a stoop. Twelve feet of rainbow paper chain I made while facetiming Arya. Blue sequins and glow in the dark stars that fell out of Gigi’s sweet sixteen present. My binoculars and fifteen new lifers in one day—that’s migratory season, baby. Gummy candies. A matchbook with Megan & Dylan’s picture wrapped around the sleeve. Nashville hot sauce. A rubber horse head mask. Sea shells. Secrets—yours and mine. Emergency birthday candles. Glitter. A kite. A bathing suit just in case. Never enough nail files. Seven lavender dice. Several rocks. If I had to describe a perfect day it would be this: Wake up to the sound of birds and monkeys. Crack open a passion fruit, and eat it with my hands. Lay in the hammock and alternate between reading and bird watching. Walk barefoot to the cafe for an iced americano. Comb the beach for fossilized bivalves, petrified wood, jasper and agate. Applaud each other’s finds. Head to our favorite mermaid tide pool, put goggles on, and let tiny shells and stones sift through my fingers for hours. Take a break to play chess on the rocks. Get a smoothie, or another coffee, or a sandwich, or a pastry— perhaps all of the above. Weave in and out of some little shoppy-shops and say “ooh look at this,” “that’s so cute on you,” “guys should I get this?” Take an outdoor shower. Put on a cute outfit. Horseback ride on the beach at sunset. Shrimp casado at a soda in town. Hit the club to shake some ass just until the caipirinha is empty. Go home to lay by the pool and stare at the full moon. Q1 collage! There have already been so many big life changes and moments this year. I moved to a new apartment and neighborhood, celebrated my birthday in a new-to-me city, and started a new job. But there has also been the stability of constants in my life: building memories with my best friends, celebrating life with my family, and time spent nurturing my favorite hobbies. I’m so grateful to have the time to take notice, the privilege to have these experiences, and for the ever growing space in my heart to stitch to it these moments in time ✨✨💗🪡 by @nikitastakeeta

Honoring my Vovo today, who would’ve turned 100 this Veteran’s Day!!! Miss him every day. Some words I wrote in tribute after he passed in 2020—

Vovo was an outstanding example of a gentleman. Built like a tree, he was tall and broad, stoic, and wore just as many rings of wisdom as the oldest in the forest. He was a man of few words—mostly because the women around him did all the talking—but when he did speak he was brilliant, funny, and sharp till the end.

He met Nana at a dance after the war, while visiting a fellow cadet he had met in service in the Royal Air Force. He said it was the classic story of men on one side and women on the other, and you “hope to dance with a nice partner.” After dancing together that evening and spending the weekend together, he asked if he could write to her, and they kept in touch over letters until one fateful “all night party” that sealed the deal and had him meeting “Mum” for approval. They traveled Europe together on his motorcycle, camping and dancing all the while, and eventually decided to marry in August of 1949. They saved their post-war rations to purchase his suit and a cake.

Vovo was the most caring and considerate man. I remember taking note of this trait first while on vacations to Florida as a kid, where I would stay on a mattress in the living room and in the early morning he would shuffle through to the kitchen to prepare a tray of tea and biscuits to bring back in to the bedroom to enjoy in bed with Nana while watching the news. He was always holding Nana’s hand while walking, or sitting on the couch—or any time really. Whenever out, strangers couldn’t help but point out how cute of a couple they were. It is seriously magnetically powerful stuff.

They just don’t make them like him anymore. A while ago, Nana told me to hold out for a man like Vovo, but few hold a match to that gentle giant and the love he had for his wife and family. I feel so lucky to have bore witness to something so grand for so much of my life. I am so grateful for this man and everything he has provided our family. His legacy lives on through every life he touched 🤍 by @nikitastakeeta

This past weekend I made the pilgrimage to Hampton Coliseum to see @phish cap off their fall tour and end the weekend on my 100th show. Waiting in line to get in to the venue on Sunday, I was reflecting on my first show back in 2009 and my good friend @hausumountain made the poignant observation “and life has happened in between.”

We’re lucky, as fans of this band, to hold on to show dates as markers in time. When we first met; when we first fell in love; when I first moved to the city; when I was homeless; when I was heartbroken; when I was held. That time my ticket wouldn’t scan. That trip through California. When we put glitter on and streamed the show in the living room. Memories tied to music so tightly, just a chord can pull you back into the blue-lit arena, glow sticks falling from above. Some moments echo forever, and some songs hold them all. “I feel the feeling I forgot” and remember every time!!!

I found this rusty iron biscuit mold at a junk sale in Florida and knew immediately I wanted to use it to display some of my small treasures 🐚✨

After mounting it, the incredibly hideous light switch below stood out like a sore thumb, so I floated a thick layer of grout over the top of it (because why not?) carved out the openings with a toothpick and let it cure overnight.

I try to spend 20 minutes minimum every day making art. I’m never too serious about it and usually have no plan. Today after wrapping work and shutting my computer I was delighted to see that the grout cured perfectly and began mindlessly decorating it with sharpies. I love how silly dumb and joyful it all is 💐 xo by @nikitastakeeta
