I used to believe confidence came dressed in nice clothes, walked around with flawless skin, perfectly done make up and beautifully curled hair. My external me was so conscious of how I was viewed, what they might think of me or how I might sound. And so, my 17 year old self never went after what she wanted in life. She waited for someone else to tell her she was good enough, that she had potential, that she was capable of making her life a success. But… That never came. And now I know. Now I see that confidence is an inside job. It’s from me to me, doing the things I say I will do, keeping my own promises to myself when no-one else is watching. Owning who I am, how I feel and what I can do. And what’s more, it came with age. With my 45 years of experience, waiting around for someone else to tell me what I already had sitting right there all the time. It should NEVER be done alone… PARENTING!! There are no doubts in my mind that raising children is a thing to do in partnership… in community. The responsibility is immense, being the only person that is there to make all the life changing choices, that carries the weight of another human on your shoulders, to be there consistently day in day in day out. Through troubles, worries, hardships. Even in your own darkness your child still takes priority. To learn them, coach them, counsel them… To try and be the best version of yourself so that they understand how to create and build a better life for themselves. The mental load is unexplainable unless you are parenting alone. Today I reflect on what it means to parent alone and I salute every single woman out there that is faced with this very beautiful but challenging experience. It may not be easy. It may be very lonely, but… Know that you are not alone. I’m recognising all of my incredible single mums out there - I see you. In my 46 years on this earth, I’ve been through some stuff… And I can tell you that it is hands down THE hardest job in the world!! It’s SOOO easy to think that Instagram isn’t working for you.. That maybe if you just post at the perfect time or post a bit more.. 3…4 times a day that somehow your ideal clients will come flooding in. So you try another Reel. Add another platform. Promise yourself you’re going to post every day next week 😅 But, what if volume isn’t actually the thing that’s missing? If you don’t know who you’re trying to reach, what you want to be known for or what you want your content to actually achieve, adding MORE content isn’t necessarily going to change anything. I spent most of my life betraying myself. Hiding how I felt, agreeing with what other people said, not standing up for what I believe… I abandoned myself because I felt uncomfortable, self-conscious, scared to speak up because I thought I didn’t belong in places. They don’t belong to you. Those thoughts you keep having. Those beliefs about who you are. Those words you keep repeating. I’m not good enough… I’m not sure I can do it… I think it’s too late… I’m not smart enough… I’m not as good as her… I should stick to what I’m good at… I couldn’t charge that… They’re not your beliefs. They’ve been given to you by people who don’t know what you’re capable of. What beliefs have you kept that don’t belong to you? I’d love to hear in the comments. She’s definitely brewing something…😆😂 We’ve all got something that we’re working on, something in the pipeline, something that we want to grow and get known for. What would that be for you? What would people associate with you? What would make someone recommend you? What do you believe about the work you do? And what makes someone think of you when they need help with the thing you specialise in? Who told you that you’re not good enough? There are so many transitions that we go through as women. Our bodies, our hormones… our minds!! And we wonder why it is so common to hear women say they feel like they’re not enough, to shrink who they are, to dull down their light or to adapt how they show up.
