To the boy who first brought me the biggest joy in my life…to the boy who made me a mother… to the boy who taught me what it means to be patient…to the boy who made me realize that my heart can exist outside of my chest…to the boy who first gave me hypertension….HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY!! 13 years and you have accomplished so much and have become such a wonderful young man. 4 years ago, this little munchkin almost killed me making her way into this world. She’s been giving everyone the side eye since then. May is a month filled with celebrations. Celebrations of the Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures. There’s Mother’s Day. Cinco de Mayo. Memorial Day. We also celebrate the end of a school year and the beginning of a summer adventure. For me, this May I celebrate being 10 years CANCER FREE! After the 10 year mark, the risk of recurrence significantly decreases. So this post is a celebration…of me. I did it. I’m still here, alive and well. And when I stress out about the schedule of my job, or how I’m going to pay to fix the ac or how exhausted I am doing…all the adult things and mom things. I have to remember that at one point…I wanted this. I wanted to stress out about these things and not about if I’m going to live to be able to do things with my family. I struggle a lot about loving myself as I am physically. But why? I have survived two pregnancies (one where I lost an ovary, the other I hemorrhaged out). I have survived 6 months of chemo and radiation. Surgeries and recoveries. My body has fought and kept me alive. So I have decided that I’m going to celebrate me more. Because after everything, I have persevered and I am still here. And I am loved by some of the best people. What more can I ask for. Nothing else matters.
