You don’t need to track every number in your business. Financial literacy isn't about becoming obsessed with spreadsheets. It's about having enough information to make informed decisions. So, start with one that can help you answer a question.

Why isn’t my diary filling up?
Are my clients coming back?
Is my average client spend increasing?
Are my profit margins improving?
Am I making better use of my available hours?

Choose a KPI that relates to the area you want to improve, find your starting point, and track it consistently.

Then make a plan.

Try something.

Keep tracking.

Did the number move?

That’s where KPIs become really useful. They give you actual data to tell you whether the decisions you’re making are working.

Your booking software, accounting software and website analytics probably already hold a lot of this information. And for anything they don’t, a simple spreadsheet will do.

You don’t need more data for the sake of having data.

You need the right data to help you make better decisions 📊

I've decided to close one chapter of Nikki Rae Beauty 🙏

For now, I'm stepping away from the professional lash-supply side of my business.

One of the easiest traps to fall into as a small business owner is looking at your bank balance and assuming that's how much money you have.

It isn't necessarily.

When it's all sitting together, one big balance can create a false sense of security.

You have a good week ➡️ the account looks healthy ➡️ you spend a little more freely or pay yourself a little extra...

Then a few weeks later, bills land and you're 💩 yourself.

Beginner's Classic Lash Training — Day 1 🩷✨️

Today was jam-packed with information and new skills, but everything was carefully broken down so that each step naturally built on from the last.

Rather than overwhelming my student with everything at once, we focused on one skill at a time. Each theory concept was followed with practical exercises to help reinforce what they'd just learned and build confidence before moving on.

One of the most common things I hear from students is, "Lashing is so much harder than it looks!" And yup, it is! It's such an underrated skill in the beauty industry. The thing is, I've been a beginner, too. I remember exactly how it feels sitting where my student sat today. That's why I approach my training with patience, encouragement, and understanding.

Tomorrow is all about getting more hands-on with live model practice (because the best way to master this skill is to practise, practise, practise)! We'll also dive into the business side of things, so that by the end of this weekend, my student has all the foundations necessary to start their lash journey confidently, and of course, I'll be there for support every step of the way.
