I don’t very often blow my own trumpet but when you wake up to this comment after @carolinehirons chat last night. @theforeverblonde has reminded me how much I have (mostly) loved my teams over the years and how so many still stay in touch💕 Today I still love to share my passion for education and storytelling. I love finding treasures. I adore researching history and meanings. When I bought this large plaster Little Boy of Prague, I was told his head had come off at sometime. I learnt that in Irish folklore, it is considered extraordinarily good luck, if the head of a Child of Prague statue breaks off by accident. So my beautiful statue revealed its tale. The tale of two ladies…..
Earlier this year we visited Florence and one morning, whilst grabbing my usual espresso from a very old Florentine coffee shop I spied a tiny pic in a battered old frame. I snapped it and carried on with my day. I kept going back to it. I knew it had the Medici vibe and went on the hunt to find a print of what I had affectionately called
‘ Woman with ferret’
Thanks to google I learnt it was a
Da Vinci and named ‘ Lady with ermine’
This did not help in my search - it seems, in Florence prints of these pieces are not that easy to find. After many hours pounding the cobbles I found her in a poster shop full of quite generic tat !
That was in September ….
So this week I was trawling Vinted and what came up in my feed - not searched for - was a familiar image with a twist.
Welcome in ‘ Lady with a Black goat ‘
Needless to say she has also joined my gallery.
And the best part is she’s been reimagined by a small indie business @herdarkroomcurios

Two of my most played albums when I was 14 years old and onwards were NMTB by the Sex Pistols and Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie. Little did I think that in my 50’s I’d be seeing those albums played live again. Last year I saw @cartercookjonesmatlock play NMTB several times starting off at the Bush Hall gig and this year at the Royal Albert Hall. Two more Sex Pistols with Frank Carter gigs in the diary this year.
So onto Ziggy, next week I am seeing Holy Holy - a celebration of Bowie with original band member, Woody Woodmandsey, Tony Visconti and Glenn Gregory on vocals.
Hearing these albums played live bring me and so many others so much joy - only this time I’m not lying in my black painted bedroom, on my futon bed and burning cheap incense 🖤💕🖤💕🖤 by @nikkitmb

Scents and Stuff - Part Two
One of my earliest memories of an immersive retail experience were my trips to Liberty’s ‘Oriental Bizarre’ in the London store basement. I remember the smell of incense, the small silk purses and jewellery boxes; encircled by tiny figures with little black top knots. Also a nod here to the great Covent Garden General store that had a very similar vibe.
This is where I believe my love for Asian imagery and artefacts started and continues today.
So my next pairing is the glorious fragrance of @chanelofficial Coromandel which I’m showing with some of my collection of Foo dogs and other Asian delights.
Coco Chanel knew how to capture global styles, and she loved Asian items such as the precious Coromandel screens, adorned with mysterious Asian flowers, that lined the walls of her Parisian apartments. I imagine her wafting through her apartment in devore velvet, leaving trails of Coromandel scent behind her.
I love the intensely ambery notes with additions of patchouli, frankincense and benzoin. All of these notes consistently feature in my favourite perfumes. Coromandel is warm, luxurious and enveloping.
It feels like a very grown up perfume, one that gives me strength and more than a touch of wanderlust.
Now, I just need that ticket for the Orient Express? #vintagestyle #antiques #perfume #cabinetofcuriosities by @nikkitmb
