New pic because my apartment is in hell. What made me give up on having anything on the wall after an almost two year battle? You might notice there’s nothing above the framed Candyman cells and to the right of The Clone Wars print. A few nights ago the framed print from Friday the 13th vinyl fell off the wall at 2:40am. I’ve had issues before and was frustrated with all the pieces of glass that looked like icicles scattered everywhere. I was worried because of my vision issues that I’d cut myself. When I bent down to clean up all the glass the television turned on. It was 2:44am and I know this because that’s when it decides to turn on most nights so I quickly recovered and cleaned up what I could. Once I was satisfied that the rest could wait until it was an acceptable hour to vacuum, I went back to bed. As I was falling back to sleep my light saber fell off the wall. I hate it here. Do they all have an explanation? Yeah. Was it completely ridiculous? Also, yeah. by @nikneedsnovels

I laughed at Martha’s wit. I gagged at some of it. I cried. Samantha Josephs manages to make the visceral feel emotional, the uncomfortable feel meaningful, and the strange feel incredibly human.

This book is funny, harrowing, gross, tender, and deeply thought-provoking. And somehow, underneath all of it, there’s this exploration of what connects us as women and how much of ourselves we recognize in one another.

While I raced to finish it completely engrossed in Martha’s journey I was also sorry I had to eventually finish it.

Can’t wait for the movie!!

I’m only on CHAPTER THREE and already obsessed with Carrying by Samantha Josephs. 😍🧡

The writing is CHEF’S KISS, and the premise is perfection: a stealth trans woman with a picture-perfect life, a body doing the impossible, and a pregnancy that absolutely should not be happening.

I can’t wait for the movie!!

So ridiculously happy I got this in my Aardvark book box! 🥹

FEMININE RAGE. We love to see it or at least I do!

Watching Mike Flanagan’s Carrie has me thinking about all the women in horror who were pushed too far.

Some women become monsters. Some were called monsters long before they ever fought back.

And sometimes? You can understand exactly why they snapped.

My copy of Undead Appalachia is here, and seeing my name in a horror anthology never gets old.

Edited by Dawn Hilbert and Michael Fitzgerald, this folk horror anthology brings together thirteen chilling tales rooted in the dark heart of Appalachia. We’re talking ghosts, demons, zombies, vengeful spirits, and things that really should have stayed dead. 👀

My story, “The Kudzu Queen Rides Again,” is part of this collection, and I’m thrilled to be included alongside such a fantastic lineup of regional authors.

So here’s your reminder that in between reading weird books, reviewing horror, and being a general spooky little menace, I also write stories of my own. And sometimes, those stories find a home in a book like this one. 🧡

Then you can do my favorite thing and read the novelization by Wendy Dalrymple! Because watching the horror is fun, but reading it afterward? Even better. 📚🔪

Buzzkill is exactly the kind of fun, campy horror I want this October. Nora is supposed to be the Sober Sister, keeping an eye on her sorority sisters, but instead she gets absolutely wasted. Then her sorority sister, the Sigma president turns up dead.

The problem? Nora’s drunk alter ego knows what happened.

Now sober Nora has to piece together the clues her drunk self left behind before the killer strikes again, ala Memento.

It has the feel of a more mature Fear Street—like Nightmare Hall, but “for the Patricias.”
