The worst kept secret — we made an album! Our trio - Crosshatch - is so excited and humbled to share our debut self titled record! This has been such a long time coming, and we hope that this music is able to communicate the feelings of joy, comfort, and straight up love that we feel for one another. Full album is out October 23rd!
-
In preparation for our BIG release, our first single “Twin Kitties” will be releasing in ONE week on October 2nd, and will be available on all streaming services (except for stupid spotify)!
-
Stay tuned for more announcements in the near future, we may in fact be coming to play in a (Danish) city near you :P by @nikolajbangsgaard

On Tuesday, I will perform my graduation concert from the Conservatory in Aalborg with my new project, Ensemble ICTAL.

09 June at 7:15 PM
Classical Hall, Musikkens Hus, Level -3

Vesselin Demirev - Violin, Matthias Hehrmann – Cello, Marius Ungureanu – Viola, Thomas Fryland – Trumpet, Nikolaj Bangsgaard – Drums, Morten Østerlund – Double Bass

Thomas Fryland and I have composed music for string trio and rhythm section based on the neurological condition epilepsy. I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy almost two years ago. Ensemble ICTAL is very much a “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” kind of project. I can only recommend using music for this kind of purpose!

I've been carrying out all sorts of small investigations into my condition - extracting numbers, graphs, and frequencies etc. from it, and transforming this material into melodies and arranging the entire work for the ensemble. The result is ICTAL, a four-movement composition based on the different phases of an epileptic seizure. The title "Ictal" comes exactly from the clinical name of the visible seizure.

My temporal lobe epilepsy is very mild. I receive medication and am again living a completely normal everyday life. by @nikolajbangsgaard

The Chosen Groove at Søhesten, 21.1.26

Andreas Toftemark – Sax
Matthias Petri – Bass
Magnus Hjorth – Piano
Nikolaj Bangsgaard – Drums

Fantastic evening featuring original compositions by Andreas Toftemark and a great atmosphere. Søhesten is really a gem of the jazz scene every Wednesday and Thursday, but the dim red lighting makes it quite challenging to shoot!

While I’ve experimented with slow shutter speeds and flash last week, I wanted to try using one of my most unique lenses this time – the Olympus 55mm f/1.2 from 1972.

The large aperture lets in a lot of light, but leaves very little in focus, which of course makes manual focus all the more challenging in dark conditions. While all vintage glass adds a different look than modern optics, this lens adds a particularly dreamy look wide open – compare the shots of Toftemark with his last close-up and you can see what I mean.

Certainly different, but very fun to use!

- Christian

PS. It was also exciting to fire off the flash again at the end, although it makes one feel very self-conscious. Interestingly enough, every musician so far has said it didn't bother them at all, though I suspect the audience would say otherwise. by @nikolajbangsgaard

… haven’t been active here lately but i thought that it was worth sharing that @jacob_djursaa’s debut record ‘drømmesyn’ has been nominated for a danish music award in the category ‘new jazz-name of the year’ <3

it’s a project that i am really proud of being a part of and the music and the people of the group is always reminding me of home - a place that i often miss even though nyc is so beautiful and inspiring …
