The what’s & the why’s. I believe that having a solid mission statement is the foundation of exceptional design. It guides the design process in creating spaces that reflect your unique vision and values. Swipe to see a few key points from the #NJID mission statement that inspire us.

Listen, the creative process looks different for everybody. And apparently, mine comes with choreography. 🤣

But seriously, creativity takes time. Not just the time spent drawing plans, pulling materials, or developing concepts, but the time it takes for ideas to percolate.

Sometimes the best ideas happen when you’re not actively working on them. In the grocery store, in the shower, at a concert, or somewhere in the middle of doing absolutely nothing related to design.

Because inspiration doesn’t always show up on schedule. And sometimes you have to give an idea a little room to breathe before it becomes something great.

That’s why the time between the work is just as important as the time spent doing it.

And yes, sometimes there’s a whole dance party happening in my head while I’m figuring it all out. 🤣 …don’t judge me. 🤣🤣 by @nilejohnson

Your home office should be working just as hard as you do. And looking good while doing it. 😉

We spend a lot of time thinking about productivity, but not nearly enough about how our surroundings impact it.

Good design isn’t just about creating a beautiful space. It’s about creating an environment that supports the way you work, helps you stay focused, and makes those long days a little more enjoyable.

For this home office, we considered everything from furniture placement and lighting to storage, comfort, and all the little details that make a space feel as good as it looks.

Because function and beauty aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, they’re better together.

Swipe through for a little behind-the-scenes look at how we brought this space from concept sketches to design vision.

And remember, just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean it has to look like you’re working from home. 😉 taken in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania by @nilejohnson

Here’s the thing about renovations: the mess is temporary, but the decisions you make along the way can impact how you live in your home for years to come.

And while I completely understand wanting to get through the process as quickly as possible, rushing decisions just to move things along isn’t always doing you any favors.

The right layout, the right materials, the right details. They all matter. And sometimes getting them right requires a little more time, a little more planning, and a whole lot of patience.

Because the goal isn’t just to get the renovation DONE. It’s to get it done WELL.

Trust me, you’ll forget about the dust. But that one decision you wish you’d made differently? You’ll be reminded of that every single day. 😏

Good things come to those who wait, and trust me, good design is worth the wait. by @nilejohnson

That piece you’ve had forever. The chair you refuse to part with. The way you actually use your home.

I want to know all of it.

Pinterest has a lot of beautiful things.
Pricing apparently isn’t one of them. 😂

Cuffing season is officially upon us.

And whether you’re boo’d up or enjoying your own company, your home needs to understand the assignment.

Because romance is great, but have you ever walked into a perfectly designed room? 😏

Consider the following your official cuffing season checklist.

01. Something Soft to Get Wrapped Up In
Cashmere throws, plush velvet pillows, and layers upon layers of texture. Because cuddling is cute, but cuddling in cashmere? Even better.

02. Lighting That Understands the Assignment
Warm, dimmable, flattering lighting. Nobody is trying to fall in love under 5000K recessed lights. Absolutely not.

03. A Signature Scent
Smoky woods, amber, sandalwood, a little spice. Your home should smell like somebody interesting lives there.

04. A Playlist With Intentions
A great sound system and a little mood music. Because the right song can do what an entire room full of accessories cannot.

05. A Bedroom Worth Staying In
Beautiful bedding, an upholstered headboard, blackout drapery, and a mattress that makes getting out of bed feel like a personal attack.

Which essential are you NOT compromising on? by @nilejohnson

One thing I always tell my clients? There will be tears. 😂

Things will go wrong. Things will take longer than you think. There will be plot twists, unexpected surprises, and a few moments when we have to pivot.

A little comedy, a little drama, and occasionally a thriller.

It’s also why I tell people to hire a designer WAY before they think they need one. Good design takes time, and there’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes before anything pretty shows up.

We set those expectations from day one because that’s what a good process is for. Not to promise perfection, but to navigate the unexpected.

Trust the process. The ending is worth it. by @nilejohnson

Good music, a little creativity, and a whole lot of design happening over here.

Because the vibe in the studio matters just as much as the spaces we’re creating. And today, Freddie is setting the mood! 🤎

And when “Jam Tonight” (one of my favorite songs) comes on? Oh, we’re absolutely turning that up! 🙌🏾 😂 taken in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania by @nilejohnson

Fall is officially here, and I don’t know about you, but this is giving me serious bed & breakfast weekend vibes.

Cozy layers, beautiful textures, a little character, and all those thoughtful details that make you want to check in and stay awhile.

A few of our favorite moments from a bed & breakfast project we designed. Proof that hospitality is about more than just a beautiful space. It’s about how that space makes you feel.

Now, who’s ready for a weekend getaway? Because I certainly am. 🥂 Let’s Go!
