A medina within the medina.

Royal Mansour, the hotel King Mohammed VI built in Marrakesh, reads less like a hotel and more like urban design. Planned as a “palace city” that borrows from the Alhambra and Japan’s Katsura Imperial Villa, it has no corridors and no lobby in the usual sense. Instead, 53 private riads are stitched together by palm-shaded lanes, fountains and orange trees. Beneath it all, about 1 km of tunnels lets staff serve each riad unseen.

The plan is the luxury.

The Bloomberg Center at Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island in New York City exemplifies innovation in sustainable design and academic architecture.

The building is designed to generate nearly all of its energy on-site through a combination of solar power, geothermal systems, and an ultra-efficient building envelope. One of its most striking features is the façade, composed of 337,500 individually tilted aluminum tabs that act like pixels—capturing light and forming images that shift with perspective.

A 40,000-square-foot photovoltaic canopy spans the roof, while geothermal wells, rainwater harvesting systems, and intelligent building controls support the project’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero energy use.

The pixelated façade creates a symbolic bridge between New York City and Ithaca, reflecting the dialogue between urban and natural environments, academia and technology.

Sümela Monastery feels like architecture emerging from mountain itself.

Also known as Monastery of Virgin Mary, it was, according to tradition, founded in the 4th century by two monks from Athens, Barnabas and Sophranios, after they discovered an icon of Virgin Mary inside a cave.

Legend says the icon was painted by Saint Luke - a sacred story that became central to Sümela’s identity.
