After walking up to the weather station and look out point at Boscastle in Cornwall, I was surprised as to how busy it was and the fact that the station itself was manned by volunteers. Into the Quiet

A lone walker crossing the coastal hillside, with the cliffs slowly disappearing into the haze.

I love landscapes like this where very little is happening, yet the scale of the place makes the person feel almost insignificant. Removing the colour strips the scene back even further — just the figure, the land, the sea and that huge empty sky.

Quickly becoming one of my favourite images I have taken in 2026. Carlyon Bay, Cornwall. Shooting into the sun helped define the figures and gave some beautiful light across the sand white I was able to emphasise in post

There’s something strangely peaceful about walking into the sea when the horizon has almost disappeared.

One figure, cold water, and a coastline swallowed by mist. The lack of colour strips everything back until there’s nothing left to distract from the moment.

I like how small the swimmer feels against all that empty space — almost as though the sea could just keep going forever.

Into the Quiet

A long exposure study of the English coast, where the structure of the pier cuts through an almost motionless sea. Stripped back to black and white, the scene becomes less about the place itself and more about line, space, light and stillness.

Part of my ongoing black and white fine-art photography exploring the quieter side of the British coastline.

Between Tides

There’s something unmistakably British about a summer day by the sea — swimmers edging into the water, small waves rolling onto the shore and the old pier stretching quietly into the distance.

I wanted this photograph to feel less like a picture of a beach and more like a memory of one. Stripped back to black and white, the colour disappears and the little details take over: the figures in the water, the texture of the shingle, the line of the surf and that huge open horizon.

A quiet moment on the English coast, where not very much is happening — and that’s exactly the point. #BlackAndWhitePhotography

Upward Bound

Description

A quiet ascent into the mountains — suspended above the snow with nothing but steel, shadow and open space ahead. I loved the geometry of the chairlift against the huge alpine landscape, especially in black and white where the shapes and contrast take over.
