LAST WEEK

This is the last week to visit Violeta Maya's solo exhibition, "Absoluto Estado de Proliferación," at our gallery.

Captivated by nature's continual process of creation, Maya explores the capacity of matter to sprout, multiply, and generate form. Across painting and sculpture, "Absoluto Estado de Proliferación" (Absolute State of Proliferation) unfolds through forms suspended between the botanical, the corporeal, and the geological. Cavities, membranes, stems, swollen bodies, and flowing structures evoke seeds, organs, plants, landscapes, and bodies without ever resolving into any one of them.

The exhibition closes October 10.

On the occasion of Michael Kvium’s focus26 presentation, the artist was joined by Jeannette Ehlers for a conversation moderated by Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt, Associate Professor in Performance Studies and Cultural Studies at University of Copenhagen.

Bringing together two distinct artistic practices across generations, the talk explored performance, video art and the body as both material and a site of meaning.

OPENING TODAY
5 – 7 PM
@theroundtower

Lea Porsager is part of "LIGHT ECHOES", an exhibition and research project where science and art come together to explore light, time, and the universe, curated by Irene Campolmi at Rundetaarn.

Porsager’s "Einstein Cross" explores gravitational lensing, a phenomenon in which a massive galaxy bends light from a distant source. An “Einstein Cross” occurs when a quasar appears as four images around a foreground galaxy – light from a single source reaching us along different paths. Porsager translates this cosmic phenomenon into a cross fitted with spheres and prisms reminiscent of those used in lighthouses, bringing cosmic processes into dialogue with terrestrial technologies of navigation.

Set against the neighbouring Trinitatis Church and its intertwined histories of religion and astronomy, the work evokes light as both radiation and revelation.

"LIGHT ECHOES" is presented by the Rundetaarn and Yonder Art•Science in collaboration with the Niels Bohr Institute.

The current focus26 presentation by FOS brings together a collection of sculptural pieces, including five lamps and two spice shelves, that draw upon the familiar language of domestic design.

These sculptures disguise themselves as design objects, forcing the pieces to be viewed from a dual perspective, caught in an in-between status. They are at once useful and decorative, familiar and strange, domestic and sculptural. By adopting the visual language of everyday objects, they make visible the systems of information and behavior embedded within them.

The presentation is on view through Saturday, October 3.

Violeta Maya's sculpture "La pintura va tomando cuerpo" (2026) is part of her current solo exhibition, "Absoluto Estado de Proliferación", at our gallery at Holbergsgade 19 in Copenhagen.

For Maya, sculpture extends painting beyond the canvas, giving painted forms a body. La pintura va tomando cuerpo grows through the architecture of the exhibition, its swollen body rising from the ground while a slender extension reaches upward. Rounded, folded structures evoke seeds, organs, protective membranes, or bodies, suggesting gestation, incubation, and latent life.

"Proposal for the World’s Second-Tallest Building" (2025) by SUPERFLEX is currently on view in our gallery office at Glentevej 49 in Copenhagen.

The work consists of ceramic replicas of sponges, stacked vertically. Based on SUPERFLEX’s yearslong research into constructing human infrastructure that also accommodates other species, the work proposes a new skyscraper – the second-tallest in the world – designed to resemble sponges, an ancient type of marine organism vital to ocean ecosystems.

To make the work, the sponges have been painstakingly replicated; even the tiniest, most delicate details have been copied. Assembled into a tower, they suggest a new urban landscape built on the principles of organic life. Skyscrapers are designed to keep the elements out, but with this proposal, the porosity of the sponges would allow air and water to circulate through the building, creating an unpredictable flow of matter and life. Because all spaces in a sponge are connected, visitors can move from room to room vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or in any direction—the world’s second-tallest building will be infinitely traversable.

IN FOCUS

Michael Kvium’s painting, "Facing I & II" (2026), is on view as part of the current focus26 presentation at our gallery on Glentevej 49.

The new paintings on view continue a logic of inversion, in which black and white are not merely formal opposites but coexist within the same figures. Clothing, objects, faces, and backgrounds are divided and reversed, producing pairs in which one image seems to contain the possibility of its opposite. In the smaller works, the division enters the figure itself, splitting the face between contrasting identities. The paintings suggest that positive and negative are not fixed states but two sides of the same image.

This is the final week to visit Ikram Abdulkadir’s solo exhibition, "Soft Focus", at Moderna Museet Malmö. The exhibition is on view through 27 September.

For the exhibition, Abdulkadir has revisited her extensive archive, which today contains thousands of images, selecting both new and earlier works that play off one another and highlight central themes in her practice. In many of the motifs, we catch glimpses of family and friends, both at home and out in the city’s streets and squares. She uses a colour palette that ranges from muted greens, blues, and browns to stronger signature tones of red, pink, and purple. Technical experiments, such as double exposures and overexposures, are employed to make the motifs both enigmatic and compelling.

Violeta Maya's solo exhibition, "Absoluto Estado de Proliferación", is currently on view at the gallery on Holbergsgade 19 through October 10.

For Maya, sculpture extends painting beyond the canvas, giving painted forms a body. "El agua corriente no se corrompe (流水不腐)" – a running water fountain – gives the space both pulse and sound, extending Maya's exploration of life beyond the visual. Water recurs throughout her practice as a generative force, essential to growth and transformation. Its continuous flow resists stillness, as though life were always beginning again – an absolute state of proliferation.

SUPERFLEX’s solo exhibition, “Come Hell or High Water”, is on view at ARKEN, Denmark, through January 3, 2027.

Transport crates are piled in the museum's Art axis. They contain works from SUPERFLEX's more than 30-year career, ranging from the group's earliest works from 1993 to brand new productions. The crates are both an archive of their art and cargo of a ship – ready to be transported onward, opened, or left behind.

Over the past several years SUPERFLEX has developed artworks that function not only as art, but also as housing for fish. This practice culminates in the exhibition's new long-term project, "The Ark Factory". In the middle of the exhibition, a factory has been erected where visitors can experience how parts of a large ark are being produced using a new technique developed by Vasilij Sitnikov from Ice Formwork in collaboration with SUPERFLEX. This ark will not float but instead serve as an artificial reef that fosters biodiversity as sea levels rise. Over time, parts of the ark will be placed on the seabed in locations around the world. SUPERFLEX's ark will become a platform for coexistence across species – a vessel that carries life into the future, with or without humans on board.

NOW OPEN

Tove Storch’s solo exhibition, "Preliminary Works for Tove Storch’s The Ship", is now open at MAPS in Køge, Denmark, and runs until 3 January 2027.

In "Preliminary Works for Tove Storch’s The Ship", MAPS takes a closer look at the process behind Tove Storch’s seventeen-metre-long red concrete sculpture "The Ship". Models, drawings, and sketches offer insight into the artist’s working process and reveal how experiments with plaster, concrete, fabric, and gravity gradually shaped the final work.
