🗣️ I’ll be hosting four screen-printing workshops with Fotografiska Shanghai next week! -

For 13 years, I ran a silkscreen studio in Shanghai called @idlebeats_ together with @gregor_koerting . It was more than a studio - it was where I learned how to build images, work with layers, colours, textures, and repetition, and where many of the ideas behind my work first began to take shape.

Although my practice has evolved into sculptural pieces, screen printing has never really left. I still use it regularly today, printing patterns and visual elements directly onto wood and incorporating them into my sculptures. In many ways, it remains the foundation of how I think and make.

This summer, I’m happy to be returning to this part of my journey through a workshop with Fotografiska Shanghai under the IdleBeats name.

What I love about screen printing is that it’s both simple and endlessly open. You can learn the basics quickly, but spend years discovering new possibilities. It’s a process that continues to surprise and inspire me, even after all this time.

Last Friday I was invited by CreativeMornings Berlin to share my experience of running @idlebeats_ screen printing studio in Shanghai and talk about the new work I’ve been developing in Berlin.

It was a very heartwarming day, my heart was full of old friends and wonderful new connections. Thank you to everyone who came so early in the heat and all the kind words you shared with me after the talk. I feel incredibly grateful, blessed, and loved. 🥹💘

Hand-rubbing walnut oil into walnut wood. Same species, feeding itself.

The oil penetrates the grain rather than sitting on top, drawing out the warmth that was always there, with the warmth of the hands.

Unlike varnish or polyurethane, it doesn’t create a surface layer but soaks in, lets the wood stay itself. This is the finish before the finish, the part i enjoy a lot.
