{ZWARTBERG} On July 4th, the exhibition Zwartberg opens at Cinema Victoria. The title refers to a place intimately connected to Genkโ€™s mining history, while raising broader questions about labour, migration, landscape, community, and memory. For this exhibition, 21 artists bring together a diverse range of works, including paintings, sculptures, performances, and poetry slam. Rather than presenting a single narrative, the exhibition starts from the multiple meanings the place and its name still evoke today. New perspectives emerge from personal memories, collective histories, and the (in)visible landscape. Opening: July 4, Cinema Victoria. With thanks to ECRU, the City of Genk, Cinema Victoria, C-mine, and LUCA School of Arts. NL {ZWARTBERG} Op 4 juli opent in Cinema Victoria de tentoonstelling Zwartberg. De titel verwijst naar een plek die verbonden is met de geschiedenis van de mijnbouw in Genk, maar roept tegelijk bredere vragen op over arbeid, migratie, landschap, gemeenschap en herinnering. Voor deze tentoonstelling brengen 21 kunstenaars uiteenlopende werken samen, waaronder schilderijen, sculpturen, performances en poetry slam. De tentoonstelling vertrekt niet vanuit eฬeฬn verhaal over Zwartberg, maar vanuit de verschillende betekenissen die de naam vandaag nog draagt. Tussen persoonlijke herinneringen en collectieve geschiedenissen, tussen het (on)zichtbare landschap en wat daarin achterblijft, ontstaan nieuwe verbanden en perspectieven. Had the privilege of creating something for @_cinema_victoria_ @_hans_segers_ . Iโ€™m always in awe of this incredible place, full of history, full of warmth, not only in summertime :). Itโ€™s where my grandparents first met as young souls and fell in love. A place where I grew up, where our story lives. A place deeply tied to our roots, to the mines, where my father, uncles, and grandfathers worked. A place where cultures met and blended. Keep a gentle watch over this place, something is about to come alive here in the summer ;).
