Hey, I’m back 😎

The past few years have been full of highs and lows. I’ve had to let go of old versions of myself, get to know new ones, and move through that messy in-between.

But I finally feel like I’m right where I’m meant to be.

So I wanted to come back, re-introduce myself to familiar faces, and say hi to some new ones.

I’m Ninka. I make documentaries.
And I’m building my own YouTube documentary platform.

Over the last year, I’ve been travelling through extreme worlds: from the porn industry in the UK to hitman culture in South Africa, listening to people from all walks of life.

Stories that are beautiful, messy, broken, inspiring, and ultimately layered.

If you join me on this journey, expect twists, turns, a few uncomfortable moments…
and definitely a wild adventure.

Parenthood hard launch 📍 catch me inside by @ninka.mbaye

For years, I’ve been willing to put myself in dangerous situations to get a story.

I’ve met people I probably shouldn’t have met alone, gone into places I didn’t fully understand, and sometimes prioritised getting the shot over thinking about the risks.

Now, I’m pregnant with twin little ones, and for the first time, I have to think about what those risks mean for more than just me.

Will I still make dangerous documentaries? Absolutely. But I’ll be more conscious of how I approach them and the precautions I take.

Because what drives me isn’t danger for danger’s sake. It’s understanding human behaviour, exploring taboos and telling stories that challenge what we think we know about people.

Some of my favourite stories to tell haven’t been dangerous at all. I love it all, as long as a story challenges our first impressions and makes us question the way we judge people or situations.

And just like that, we’re packing up the home that held us through the last two years.

So much of our life happened within these walls. I’m incredibly grateful to @monsieur_jigglypuff for giving us this home, and for everything this chapter became.

It’s funny how a house can hold so much more than just your things.

For me, this chapter felt like rebuilding our foundations. After losing my brother and my dad, feeling a little lost in my career, and being kicked out of the country for over a year, this place gave us the space to grow and build again from the ground up.

And today, as we feel stronger and wiser, while growing two little humans, getting engaged, and building the foundations of my documentary platform exactly as I envisioned it, it feels like the right time for a new chapter, and a new home.

And with each new chapter comes a new hair glow-up. ✨💁🏽‍♀️ by @ninka.mbaye

While I’ve been off social media surviving the first trimester 😅, a lot has been happening behind the scenes.

Thank you for sticking with me while I’ve been growing two tiny humans ❤️ by @ninka.mbaye

Becoming a mum has always been one of the things that scared me most.

So, naturally… life decided to throw me a curveball.

Actually…

Two. 👶👶

Here’s to our greatest adventure yet, @adamtiran ❤️ by @ninka.mbaye

There’s something strangely reassuring about seeing guilt in someone’s eyes.

When someone has done something terrible, but you can feel that it haunts them… there’s a part of me that sees the human in them.

What truly scares me is when someone has taken another person’s life, and they speak about it with no emotion, no remorse, no guilt.

Those are the moments that stay with me.

I didn’t realise how much pressure would come with telling this story.

Some of the people in this film risked a lot to speak.
And that comes with responsibility… and fear.

But some stories need to be told.

Documentary dropping in a few days.

The documentary premieres on YouTube, Sunday 3rd May.

When my brother was 17, he was walking down the street with his friend when they were attacked by the police.

My brother isn’t here to tell his story anymore. So we will. And not just his, this is the story of so many people around the world.

The world is vast. Every country has its own history, its own wounds. So I started in South Africa.

But this isn’t about pointing fingers.
It’s about understanding.

The psychology. The person behind the badge. The trauma. The system.

Because if we don’t understand it, how do we ever change it?
