I have had two very successful walks over the last few weekends w a lively bunch of people! And not being able to accommodate many people who wanted to join, so i thought of doing the walk again on the 12th and 13th September.
Also, I want to make the most of the monsoon glory of the fort!

Join me to walk through the fort, understand how history is shaped by people, the toilers of the land, and how Mumbai became the first city of India. Let’s look at history more critically.

We’ll spot some fun birds, very cool trees, and engage with ideas, cultures, politics, people, food histories, and much more!

Some information:

It’s a fairly long walk (2–3 hours), with many stops in between, of course.
We meet and start walking at 8:30 am

In Sethan, boulders usually play hard to get. You muscle, grunt, and if you’re anything like me, let a scream loose. But this one was different.

The moment I saw it sitting so beautifully among the pine trees, I knew I wanted to climb it.

I sent it in the second session, with sunlight filtering through the coniferous branches, falling on the boulder and then on my face as I topped out.

Dirty Diamond felt special.

I wasn't ready to let go of the monsoon glory of Vasai Fort, so I'm trying to squeeze in one last weekend of this walk before the monsoons end!!

One final time to walk around the 110 acres of lush, monsoon-laden Vasai Fort, talk about its economies, religion, politics, history, power dynamics, the workings of caste, and try to understand Mumbai a little better.

We'll also spot a lot of butterflies, birds, fun trees, and have a tasty snack break in between - where we talk about my favourite: the politics of food, diss on some lame food takes, and practice our political muscles.

This will be the last monsoon walk. I'll resume the walks in November, but would love for people to join this one. :)

Had a lovely start to my weekend<3🌟

Started the day as a bunch of strangers, ended it with new friends. I guess that's what nature does, it somehow brings people together.

Spent the day wandering through Vasai Fort, getting lost in stories about Mumbai's history while the rain, the wind, and that endless breeze kept us going.

Got to learn so much about how the fort came to be, the stories hidden within its walls, and why it was such an important part of Mumbai's history.

Every corner had a story, every view was worth stopping for, and every conversation made it worth it! i think the greenery got to me the most.

Thanks to everyone who made it possible and @ninnadd who hosted it and made it a wonderful experience!!

Since I started @yenchaar , I’ve moved away from my home in Vasai. It's ironic considering the idea began after my mom made the achaar as an attempt to offer my sister and me a little taste of our childhood home in Manipur.

There's so little of my home state I remember, and the little news representation of the violence it suffers blurs memories I have.

Making @yenchaar has become my way of sneaking back for a glance at my 10-year-old self. The smell of bubbling golden mustard oil. Roasting cloves and cinnamon. A sneaky deep breath over the pan. Grinding the spices, then working the chillies into a coarse, gravelly mix.
I do it all with my mom and sister. It's a little doorway back to Imphal in 2006 for me.

I think everyone has a place where they belonged, where they made memories, and they carry a piece of it wherever they go. I’m not someone who likes to be tied down by ideas of belonging, but what can I say, it was beautiful growing up there.

@yenchaar has always been my attempt to bring you (and myself) a piece of that.
