Thank you to everyone who participated and sent in a submission both the first and second time around. This is the final version of this project that I am so emotional and proud to finally release to the world! Archive it digitally, read a stranger’s story, screenshot your own and post it, print out stories, and KEEP THESE STORIES ALIVE.

FINAL FUN FACTS: The average age of submission (if age was listed) was around 32 years old. The dates with the most stories are 6/18/25 (London) and 8/23/25 (Toronto)! Fans (including myself) have written a total of nearly 72,000 words in terms of story content, which could be the length of a full-length novel. My document for this project in Times New Roman size 10 font is 103 pages long. The five songs most mentioned across the board were “Closer” (62 times), “Hurt” (58 times), “Reptile” (48 times), “The Perfect Drug” (30 times), and “Head Like A Hole” (28 times).

NINE INCH NAILS: Emotion is a frequent word that captures the Jonathan Rach Collection of Nine Inch Nails photography taken during the Downward Spiral tour. Unseen for close to 30 years, when what started as a one-off gallery, as part of The Downward Spiral’ 30th Anniversary celebrations, became a touring exhibition that covered Australia, London, Japan and America.

Along that journey, we meet with so many fans, from 14 - 70’s who all had a story and a moment of when they fell in love with the music or how the music helped them in difficult moments in their lives.

We selected some of the most popular and lesser known ones that captured those discussions.

13 years ago today, on September 3, 2013, Nine Inch Nails released their eighth studio album, “Hesitation Marks.” Often viewed as a companion or spiritual sequel to the legendary “The Downward Spiral,” the record explores themes of self-discovery, inner conflict, renewal, doubt, fear, hope, and the weight of the past.

Echoes of TDS can be seen in the artwork, typography, and overall aesthetic, drawing deliberate parallels while carving out its own identity. At the time, Hesitation Marks was NIN’s first new release in five years, led by the singles “Came Back Haunted,” “Copy of A,” and “Everything.”

The deluxe edition, also released on September 3, 2013, included bonus remixes and demos, offering listeners an even deeper glimpse into Trent Reznor’s introspective creative process.

32 years ago today, on August 13, 1994, Nine Inch Nails gave their iconic mud-drenched performance at Woodstock. NIN’s performance cemented their place in music history, playing an unforgettable and epic 15-song setlist. The band’s set at the festival is considered one of the greatest highlights in Woodstock history. Drawing in both new listeners and die-hard fans alike, NIN put on a once-in-a-lifetime concert starting with “Pinion” and ending with “Head Like a Hole.”
