IT WAS A BONNE CHOICE!

Thank you to our Show Partner @bonnechoice for bringing their incredible eye and furniture pieces to STILL/ALIVE. And the iconic Corsi vase paired with @rhizome.series 👌✨ We lost count of all the double takes. Watching people give it a little jiggle and realize it wasn’t glass was amazing.

“It smells so good in here!” was one of the most overheard comments as people walked into the exhibition.

The @sajewellness Cocoon Diffuser and Present Moment blend was the perfect pairing for the show. It reminded us that our experience of a space goes beyond the physical.

@kristin204 and @therealjesswillis opened STILL/ALIVE with a conversation about the power of plants - dispelling scent myths and the role aromatherapy plays in our overall wellness and everyday joys. No one in the room wanted the chat to end.

@sajewellness thank you for being our Scent Partner and bringing an important sensory dimension to the show. Even now, the combination of Present Moment and the sound of the harp transports us back into the STILL/ALIVE space. 🧘‍♀️🪉✨ by @nintheditions

09.16.26 / Opening Night
After months of planning, there was something pretty special about finally standing inside it - surrounded by the final sculpture pieces and all of you. It was the exact moment STILL/ALIVE stopped being a concept and became something shared. What a night!

The dust has settled, and with a little room to breathe, what stays with us most from the show is a feeling of constant connection.

Two weeks of conversation, ideas, creation, experimentation and problem solving shoulder-to-shoulder with our artists, floral designers, workshop hosts, guests, friends and family. It was full, immersive and deeply collaborative.

So much of STILL/ALIVE came to life in the space between people. ✨

A few years ago I discovered Charlotte’s work and excitedly got in touch when I realized she was in Toronto. Originally from London with a long stretch in New York, it turned out she was only a few blocks away. Our studio visit turned into the loveliest friendship, with unfortunately very little photo evidence because we meet in the forest to walk our dogs and talk about life entirely disconnected from our devices. I’m so thrilled to have a work of hers on 9TH. The way she uses colour and explores nature is meditative and enigmatic in a way I can’t quite put to words. Plus, two of my ultimate obsessions — painted on Mylar and framed to perfection.

MOTHERCLOWN: When I look at this image I see so many layers all at once. Artistry, philosophy, experimentation, and collaboration. I know ~no one reads captions~, but I’m choosing to ignore that. We’re going long-form:

Rachel Crummey’s large scale artwork leaning on found bricks is titled ‘Diotima’. The piece is named for the prophetess in Plato’s Symposium who taught Socrates that love is neither a god nor a mortal, but rather a daimon, a spirit or connective tissue bridging the human and divine.

The artwork itself is made in collaboration with Reishi mycelium. Canvas is painted on, then layered over hemp seeded with living fungus. Over months, the mycelium grows on and through the surface, leaving behind evidence of the matrix now lying dormant in the work.

The sculpture by Noe Kuremoto has an equally poignant story — but a major shout out to Jennifer from @vesselsandsticks to set the stage. A week before the exhibition opened, she emailed to say this sculpture would be a perfect addition to Motherclown. It was on display at her gallery, but she felt the artist and her vessel were so closely aligned with the exhibition’s thesis that it had to be included. Jen saw the connection and acted on pure generosity.

Osaka-born Noe Kuremoto is a ceramic artist living in London. This work draws from ancient Jōmon fertility vessels and reconsiders motherhood as transformative and contradictory rather than fixed or serene. Through clay, a material that holds pressure, memory, and rupture, these talismanic forms build new symbolic language around fertility, fear, and becoming.

Strong female gazes in the Motherclown exhibition. Details of works by Tina Berning, Janet Werner, Shuvinai Ashoona (a surprisingly tender one from her). And then I’m standing in front of a beautiful, thoughtful pairing of Janet Werner and Rosy Lamb. Tomorrow is the last day to visit the Motherclown show at @alisonmilneco, curated by @nintheditions, and the book is available to buy and read forevermore (well, we all know about shelf life, but you know what I mean). by @nintheditions
