An Initiative of NITHUB, University of Lagos
"Where University Innovation Meets Industry"
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The true value of a gathering is revealed in what it leaves behind.

For three days, Nithub Innovation Fair 2026 became a meeting point for founders, innovators, researchers, students, investors and industry leaders. It was a space where ideas were challenged, partnerships began, perspectives shifted and opportunities found the people ready for them.

Looking back, the conversations were only one part of the story. The real impact lies in the connections that will become collaborations, the insights that will shape better decisions, and the ideas that will grow into ventures.

The Fair may have come to a close, but everything it set in motion is only just beginning. taken in University of Lagos by @nithub_innovation_fair

If you walked into Jelili Omotola Hall yesterday, you would’ve walked into more than an event.

You would’ve heard founders share how university opportunities became thriving ventures. You would’ve seen AI move beyond conversation into practical application. You would’ve watched industry leaders unpack the future of innovation, deep technology and research commercialisation.

You would’ve wandered through exhibition booths where ideas found new audiences, caught conversations that continued long after the microphones were off, and stepped into masterclasses designed to turn curiosity into capability.

Somewhere in between, you would’ve heard reminders like:
“Having vision is key.”
“If you want to go far, move with people.”
“What matters most is execution.”

That’s how Day 1 unfolded at Nithub Innovation Fair 26.

And we’re only getting started.

Day 2 and Day 3 are still packed with the conversations, connections and opportunities that could change your journey.

The Nithub Innovation Fair 2026 came to a close with an afternoon of celebration and recognition, marking five years of Nithub’s work with students, founders, innovators and partners.

The closing ceremony opened with a goodwill address from Professor Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Development Services at the University of Lagos, who encouraged students to make full use of the resources around them and become job creators rather than job seekers.

Professor Victor Odumuyiwa, Director of Nithub, followed with an executive summary of the Fair, reflecting on three days of conversations, learning, pitching, exhibitions and connections that brought the theme, From Vision to Venture, to life.

The celebration continued with an orchestra presentation and the presentation of the Nithub Innovation Fair 2026 Recognition Awards, honouring the people, startups, partners and organisations that have contributed to the growth of the ecosystem. Fladdov was named Student Innovator of the Year, Cubbes took Startup of the Year, while Dawn AI received the Most Innovative Solution Award. BuyScrap received the Social Impact Innovation Award, Walter Sam was named Community Builder of the Year and David Mark received the Outstanding Facilitator Award.

Recognition also went to strategic and government partners, including GIZ DTC Nigeria and NITDA, as well as sponsors FPG Technologies, BMONI, Flow Research and Moniepoint.

The Fair had a little more in store for attendees as BuyScrap brought a special raffle draw towards the end of the event. A MacBook, alongside other exciting prizes, went to lucky attendees, adding a little extra excitement to the final stretch of the Fair.

We appreciate BuyScrap for supporting the Fair and giving attendees a memorable way to round off the three days.

The ceremony brought the Fair to a close, but more importantly, it celebrated five years of the people, partnerships and work that continue to move Nithub forward. by @nithub_innovation_fair

The Nithub Hackathon at the Nithub Innovation Fair 2026 began with one simple challenge to build an intelligent financial solution in 24 hours.

On Day 1 of the Fair, the official start of the BMONI-sponsored hackathon was announced, with participants receiving their problem statements and API access before heading into the hub for an overnight build. By Day 3, the challenge reached the main stage as the finalists pitched their solutions under the theme Intelligent Money for Everyone.

From 53 valid applications and 23 submitted solutions, five teams earned their place in the final showcase. Anchored by Toniloba Adekola, the finalists pitched before Opeyemi John, Product Lead at BMONI; Keside Onyeocha, AI Engineer at Nithub; and Joseph Makinde, Innovation Manager at Nithub.

After the final pitches and deliberation, Kudi AI emerged as the winner, taking home ₦500,000. ElderPay placed second with ₦300,000, while Trackco took third place with ₦200,000.

Congratulations to the winners and every team that made it to the final stage. What started as a 24-hour sprint became a showcase of how quickly student builders can turn a problem into worthwhile solutions. by @nithub_innovation_fair

Innovation hubs can be much more than places to learn new skills. They can be where students find the space, support and connections to turn those skills into something real.

That was the focus of the sixth panel session at the Nithub Innovation Fair 2026, Innovation Hubs as Gateways to Skills, Funding and Enterprise.

Moderated by Kingsley Etebang, Chief Learning and Innovation Officer at Startuptech, the discussion brought together Prof Chika Yinka-Banjo, Pioneer Director of the AI UNIPOD; Dr Ayodele Ibrahim Shittu, Senior Lecturer of Economics and Lead of Career Development Services at UNILAG; Chukwufumnanya Isichei, Incubation Manager at NITHUB; and Damilola Obidairo, CEO of 8th Gear Hubs.

The panel highlighted how hubs can give students room to experiment, access funding and mentorship, build industry connections and develop practical skills beyond the classroom. Prof Yinka-Banjo shared the AI UNIPOD’s work on an assistive pen for people with cerebral palsy, showing what becomes possible when students and experts across different disciplines build together.

The conversation also brought a necessary reality check on life after university, with Dr Shittu reminding students that a degree may open the door, but the value they bring to the workplace is what keeps it open.

From career guidance to funding opportunities and hands-on innovation, the session showed what can happen when hubs become genuine gateways for talent and ideas. by @nithub_innovation_fair

Julian Duru returned to the University of Lagos with a keynote that connected where he started with where AI is heading, bringing a technical perspective to what it will take to build trustworthy and locally grounded AI systems.

His keynote, Proof of Work for the AI Age, focused on open AI agents, rigorous evaluation and sovereign AI infrastructure. A 2015 UNILAG graduate and former student of Professor Victor Odumuyiwa, Julian reflected on his early days at MoneyPoint and its growth into a major fintech company, before turning to autonomous agents, multi-agent systems and reinforcement learning.

He emphasised the need for rigorous evaluation as AI agents become more capable, while also highlighting the role of humans in providing context, direction and feedback. Julian also shared Flow Research’s plans to work with NITHUB on campus-based agent marketplaces and advanced technical programmes.

The session also featured a policy update from Lawrence Disu, Director of the NITDA Southwest Zone, on strengthening Nigeria’s data sovereignty, local computing infrastructure and support for homegrown AI research. by @nithub_innovation_fair

The fifth panel session at the Nithub Innovation Fair 2026 brought hubs, industry, government and capital to the same table for a discussion on Building Venture and Talent Pipelines Through Hubs, Government, Capital and Industry Collaboration.

Moderated by Bisola Amuda, the panel featured Ashwin Ravichandran, Africa Director at BMONI; Aurelia Abena Attipoe, Founder of The Pitch Hub; Olanike Aladeojebi, Startup Support Lead at Lagos Innovate (LSETF); Charles Embolu, Founder, Crestsage Limited, TechQuestCamp Africa Code Week, and Dexude Oy; and Sheriff Salu, Head of Innovation at FPG Technologies.

The conversation looked at the gap between what students learn and what industry demands, with practical examples of internship and training programmes designed to close it. The panel also touched on using AI to improve business operations, the difficult journey from the first customer to scale, and why government support must continue beyond accelerator graduation.

There were also important conversations around policy continuity, innovation infrastructure and the need to move promising university research beyond final-year projects and into the market.

The session reinforced the need for stronger pathways connecting talent, research, startups, industry, government and capital, so promising ideas can keep moving long after they leave the classroom. by @nithub_innovation_fair
