Excited to announce my solo show “It’s all fun and games” with an opening reception on July 31st from 6-9pm at Woods Lowside (530 Haight St). Please stop by to have a drink and kick it! Shoutout to @madisonalida_ and @woodsbeer making this opportunity happen

“My name is Martin Malvar and I’m an artist based in the Bay Area. “It’s all fun and games” is a show that contains works ranging from black and white illustrations to colorful paintings. I center my work around these figures that represent ‘everyday people’, interpreting the daily challenges we go through trying to maintain ourselves and our mental health. Whenever I paint, I try my best to take a complex idea and try to break it down to a simple illustration using shapes/color to represent these ideas/themes. Color and shape play a big role in my work
because it helps set the tone and how we’ll perceive the work. With the works being presented, I’m interested in how important an individual can be in one’s life and the community you build around it. Some of the work shows how important it is to see things from other perspectives and be open to opinions. It’s okay to address these situations, whether it be talking about it or putting it down on paper.

Martin Malvar is originally from Fremont, Ca but is currently located in San Francisco. He attended San Francisco State University and earned a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in drawing/painting. His main influences come from skateboarding, the Bay Area art community and the many people he’s met through it.“ by @nitramravlam
