We could tell you why the NJAEYC Annual Conference is so special...but we thought we'd let our attendees do the talking.

Year after year, educators, directors, administrators, family child care providers, and advocates leave our conference feeling inspired, connected, and equipped with new ideas to bring back to their programs.

Over the next few days, we'll be sharing what members of our early childhood community have to say about their NJAEYC Conference experience, and we hope you'll see why so many return year after year.

If you haven't registered yet, there's still time! We can't wait to welcome you this October as we learn, grow, and celebrate together.

What actually happens at an NJAEYC Board Meeting?

It's a lot more than agendas and reports.

Yesterday, we welcomed our newly elected Board of Directors and came together to discuss the future of NJAEYC, from advocacy and membership to professional development, conferences, partnerships, and the initiatives that will help strengthen early childhood education across New Jersey.

Every conversation, every idea, and every decision is guided by one shared purpose: supporting the educators, children, families, and communities we serve.

We're excited for the year ahead and grateful for the passion, expertise, and leadership our board members bring to the table. Here's to another year of collaboration, advocacy, and making a meaningful impact across New Jersey.

If this ever became a Netflix documentary, the storyline wouldn't just be about child care; it would be about the educators, families, advocates, and policymakers fighting every day to keep a system running that's long overdue for change. New Jersey's child care crisis isn't fiction. It's happening now.

New Jersey's new budget includes meaningful progress for families. Raising the state Child Tax Credit — a recommendation from Start Strong NJ's Blueprint for Affordable Child Care — will help make life more affordable for hardworking families. Preserving the state's investment in the Child Care Assistance Program also protects the support that thousands of families rely on to afford care and brings needed stability to children, parents, educators, and communities.

But preserving today's system is not the same as solving New Jersey's affordability crisis. As outlined in our Blueprint for Affordable Child Care, future budgets should expand income eligibility so more families qualify for assistance and increase support to better reflect the true cost of care.

Child care is essential infrastructure that allows parents to work, businesses to thrive, and our economy to grow. It's time to treat child care like the public good it is.

Parents don’t stop working when school lets out for the summer — so why does reliable child care become even harder to find?

This op-ed highlights a reality so many New Jersey families know all too well: summer shouldn’t mean scrambling to piece together care while trying to keep a job. Affordable, reliable child care is essential year-round, not just during the school year.

That’s why Start Strong NJ is fighting for solutions that make child care more accessible for families in every season — from expanding access to affordable care to strengthening the child care workforce and investing in the providers families rely on.

The 2026 NJAEYC Leadership Institute reminded us that leadership is about so much more than managing programs; it's about inspiring people, embracing growth, leading with purpose, and navigating uncertainty with confidence and compassion.

These are just a few of the many takeaways our attendees are bringing back to their classrooms, programs, and organizations. We hope these lessons inspire you as much as they inspired us.

Which takeaway resonates with you the most? Let us know in the comments below.
