We need your help to permanently protect the headwaters of black run preserve!

We are excited to be so close to the finish line of preserving this ecologically important preserve alongside our partners, @njconservation, Friends of the Black Run Preserve, and @rancocasconservancynj.

Important public funding has been awarded to this massive acquisition project. The last challenge is to raise enough funds to acquire the land and ensure that it has the management it needs long term.

So spread the word! Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell all of the outdoor enthusiasts in your life so that this gem continues to provide cleaner air and water, wildlife habitats, climate resilience, and greater access to nature for all.

Earlier this week, the 1,000th tree through the Trees for Trenton program was planted in our capital city! 🌳🎉

We were thrilled to join our partners for a tree planting ceremony marking NJ Climate Week. From Sept. 21 through Sept. 25, Climate Week offers the public an opportunity to learn more about the latest actions being taken to make New Jersey more resilient to the worsening impacts of climate change, like extreme heat and flooding. Among many other benefits, trees planted through Trees for Trenton will provide shade that lowers surface and air temperatures, directly helping to mitigate the urban heat island effect. This expanded tree cover will also improve stormwater management.

As our Senior Fellow for Conservation Justice Jay Watson said, "All of us together working under the banner of Trees for Trenton are exceedingly proud to have the opportunity to cool down our downtown and neighborhoods to help residents adapt to our new heat and climate realities." Fall is in the air 🍂 We'll soon be looking up at the changing leaves — but don't forget about the beauties below in the meantime!

You can still find some stunning native plants blooming this season after most other wildflowers have long turned to seed. Our Senior Land Steward Russell Juelg (who took these photos!) spotted the globally rare Pine Barrens gentian (surrounded by long-stalked aster in Photo 1) and wand goldenrod (Photo 2) at our Franklin Parker Preserve last week. 🌱

All three species are a critical late-season food source for pollinating insects that need a boost of nutrition to aid in over-winter survival. Gentian petals even have showy spots or stripes that serve as “nectar guides,” leading the insects to the center of the flowers.🐝🦋 taken in Franklin Parker Preserve by @njconservation

Let's celebrate our feathered friends all month long! Join us for FLOCK TOGETHER! an art show all about birds. The opening reception on Sunday, October 18 from 3-6pm will also serve as a NJ BIRDS x NJ ARTISTS trading card event!

There is a powerful connection between art and nature. New Jersey Conservation Foundation’s trading card series, NJ BIRDS x NJ ARTISTS, highlights that connection through a shared love of birds. Each card features an incredible work of art created by a New Jersey artist. Every pack includes 10 random cards from the series – try to collect all of the wonderful birds!
Packs will be for sale along with some of the original artwork featured on the cards. The event is free to attend otherwise. We can’t wait to open packs, trade cards, and enjoy community and conservation at Flemington DIY!

One of the iconic species of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, the ground-dwelling Northern pine snake is only found in sandy pine forest habitat within the eastern portion of the United States. These large, nonvenomous snakes with distinct dark blotches along the top and sides of their bodies are considered a threatened species throughout New Jersey.

Happy "Wick Wednesday"! To date, New Jersey Conservation Foundation has helped preserve more than 3,000 acres of open space and farmland in the Wickecheoke Creek Greenway. 🌊🌳

These efforts have helped maintain large amounts of clean drinking water for residents of Central Jersey — over 70 million gallons of potable water is pumped from the Delaware-Raritan Canal at the base of the Wickecheoke Creek watershed every day.

At our Wickecheoke Creek Preserve in Hunterdon County, you'll find beautiful trails through dense forest and along scenic meadows, cascading waterfalls, and different kinds of wildlife (including mushrooms bigger than your head!🍄‍🟫). Do you know about yarrow?

Native to New Jersey, yarrow is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial that attracts many different kinds of pollinators, like butterflies and bees. It features clusters of small flowers that bloom from April to October. Historically, different groups have used yarrow as a medicinal plant. 🌱

Last Sunday, our friend Djenaba Figueroa, through her initiative, The Bloom Collective, served as the Bouquet Facilitator during a free flower workshop at Trent-Towne Market. With Djenaba's help, community members created beautiful bouquets and learned simple techniques for selecting, arranging, and caring for fresh flowers.
