I’m going through withdrawal this weekend. After the best FIFA World Cup in history, I have to find somewhere else to travel and something else to watch on TV.

From witnessing a Messi hat trick in Kansas City to watching the USMNT play in Los Angeles and singing Country Road, to rowing with the Norwegians and seeing Egypt prevail in penalties in Dallas, it was 39 days of soccer I won’t soon forget. Not to mention Outlaw watch parties in Sioux Falls and Dallas! Waiting four years for the next one is too painful to bear. And waiting 32 years before I attend my third World Cup is unthinkable. Portugal and Spain anyone? Or maybe Saudi?

I also thoroughly enjoyed watching the USMNT play in the World Cup (all except for the last match). It was weird watching us dominate matches and not feel like I had to constantly shield my eyes. I’m excited for our future!

Thanks to Jered for the tickets and Phil and Julie for hosting me in Dallas! The memories will last forever! by @njschock

Many people assume an energy-efficient home means sacrificing comfort or living in a futuristic-looking house. Rudy & Yvonne Wright explain why that's one of the biggest misconceptions in homebuilding.

"You can have a normal American home with low utility bills, efficient heating and cooling, and lower maintenance costs by investing a little more upfront."

The real conversation isn't just about the environment; it's about long-term financial freedom.

If you're buying or building a home, don't just think about the purchase price. Think about the total cost of ownership over the next 10, 20, or even 30 years.

In this episode of the Building Loved Businesses Podcast, Rudy & Yvonne share practical insights that challenge conventional thinking about homebuilding and smart investing.

Most business owners focus on getting customers.

The best business owners focus on building systems that help people stay.

In my conversation with Bryan Sullivan, he shared a lesson that transformed his salon business. He learned that every empty chair represented lost opportunity—not just lost revenue, but unused capacity.

But the real breakthrough wasn't adding more chairs.

It was changing how he thought about developing people.

As Bryan put it, he stopped training people to leave and started training people to stay.

That shift helped his business grow from a four-chair salon to a thriving team with thirteen chairs and a clear path for growth.

The lesson applies far beyond the salon industry. Sustainable growth happens when you create an environment where people can build a future, not just collect a paycheck.

If you're a business owner, leader, or entrepreneur trying to grow your team, you'll love this conversation.

One of the biggest shifts every business owner has to make?

Stop being the hero.

In this episode of Building Loved Businesses, Bryan Sullivan shares a lesson that hit home:

"You cannot be everyone's hero. You have to be the Mr. Miyagi to the Karate Kid. You're not the Karate Kid anymore."

As leaders, our job isn't to have all the answers. It's to help our people discover them. The most effective leaders don't create dependence; they create confidence.

When your team learns how to solve problems, make decisions, and become heroes in their own right, your business becomes stronger, more scalable, and more loved.

If you're building a team and finding it hard to let go of being the person everyone depends on, this conversation is for you.

Some of the best business stories don't start with expertise.

They start with someone being willing to learn.

In my recent conversation with Shelly Poston, she shared how she went from a medical background to helping run an HVAC business—an industry she knew very little about when she first got started.

As Shelly put it, she could barely operate the thermostat, let alone understand the ins and outs of the business.

But when Kevin asked her to join the company and help behind the scenes, she said yes.

She learned payroll.
She learned QuickBooks.
She learned the financial side of the business.
And within a few months, she found her footing and became a key part of the company's success.

It's a great reminder that confidence often comes after commitment—not before it.

Too many people wait until they feel ready.

The people who build great businesses are usually the ones willing to learn as they go.

If you've ever faced a career change, stepped into an unfamiliar role, or taken on a challenge that felt bigger than your experience, you'll appreciate Shelly's story.

Most business owners talk about growth.

Few talk about earning trust from scratch.

In my recent conversation Shelly Posting of AirServ, Shelly shared what it was really like taking over a business where customers were accustomed to a different owner, a different style, and different expectations.

The transition wasn't easy.

There were difficult phone calls. There was skepticism. There were customers who questioned whether the new ownership would deliver on its promises.

But instead of trying to avoid those conversations, Shelly leaned into them.

One call at a time, she explained who they were, what they believed in, and how they planned to serve their customers. They didn't just talk about earning trust—they demonstrated it through their actions.

It's a powerful reminder that the strongest businesses aren't built on marketing alone. They're built on relationships, consistency, and a willingness to show up when trust hasn't been earned yet.

If you're leading a business through change, growing a team, or working to strengthen customer loyalty, I think you'll find a lot of value in this conversation.

Customers don’t fall in love with average.

They remember expertise.
They remember authenticity.
And they remember how you made them feel.

In this episode, Jason talks about the real secret behind customer loyalty: creating an experience built on trust, knowledge, and genuine connection.

Too many companies focus only on selling. The best companies focus on serving, educating, and consistently delivering value.

That’s how customer love is built.

If you want to grow your business, strengthen your brand, and create customers who actually advocate for you, this conversation is for you.

Jason Miersma said something in a recent conversation that stopped me cold.

"If it's gonna get done right, I have to do it myself."

He's been operating that way for most of his life. And honestly? Most leaders have.
But here's what Jason also said — and this is the part worth sitting with:

If you have to constantly tell your people what to do, they might as well not be there.
The shift happens when you stop managing and start watching. You observe. You see what they're capable of. You let them show you more than you expected. And then you trust them to do exactly that.

That's not losing control. That's actually leading.

Full conversation with Jason is live on the Building Loved Businesses podcast. If you're a leader who's ever felt like you have to do it all yourself, this one's for you.

The best leaders never stop learning.

The moment you think you’ve arrived is the moment growth starts slowing down. The strongest organizations create cultures where continuous learning, curiosity, and development are part of the everyday standard, not an occasional initiative.

In this episode, Chad talks about why learning is one of the most important competitive advantages a team and a leader can have.

Because growth-driven teams:

Adapt faster
Solve problems better
Lead with confidence
And create long-term impact

If you want to build a high-performing culture, it starts with people who are committed to improving every day.

Your customers will never outperform your culture.

If your team feels overlooked, overworked, or disconnected, it eventually shows up in the customer experience. The best organizations understand this: when you prioritize your employees, your customers win too.

In this episode, Chad Kooiman breaks down why investing in people isn’t just a leadership philosophy; it’s a business strategy.

Strong teams create strong customer relationships.
Healthy culture drives sustainable growth.
And leadership starts from the inside out.

If you’re building a business, leading a team, or trying to create a culture people actually want to be part of, this conversation is for you.
