In 2023&24, I was lucky enough to work on The Last of Us season 2.

You can scroll to read my much longer-winded, sappier thoughts if you like, but the general thesis will sound familiar to anyone who knows me: I love my job. I love what I get to do in my day to day work. I love costuming for film and television. And I love this show.

I also love, and continue to be astounded by the work ethics and talent of: Ann, Dani, Coco, Dagm, Anna, Talulah, and Kendra. And we were just the LA office - an army of costumers worked to bring Ann’s vision to life in Vancouver, whose voices I came to know through phone calls and handwriting I came to recognize on tags and boxes, and whose talent I can only hope to witness in person one day.

An unfathomable amount of hardworking people have given their time and gifts to make this season of television possible. To count myself among them is an honor.

In 2025, so much happened that I never knew could happen. I fled a burning city with my girlfriend and my cat. I drove across the country to design a short film, and then drove to Sherman Oaks to design another. I saw my name in the credits of my favorite show. I watched my sister graduate with her master’s degree. I flew to Virginia with Emily. I bought a serger. I met my little brother, Rex. I fell in love with Drag Race. I chased numerous toddlers across Los Angeles. I got really, really addicted to chopping my hair off and also to matcha. And I sewed, and I made things, and I went to trivia at a bar with No Name with all my friends as often as I could. And I LOVED (truly, unconditionally loved) my life even when it was hard, because it’s mine. I watched so many bad things happen in the world from far away and from up close, but I still had more good days than bad. Maybe I should feel guilty for that, and sometimes I do, but mostly I feel lucky and grateful. Hopefully I helped at least one or two people who were having bad days to have better ones. Hopefully I can do even more things I didn’t know I could in 2026. It’s hard to do things I don’t know I can do, but that’s how I find out what I’m capable of. And I’m capable of a lot! And so are you. by @nkianofsky
