A well needed week away in a pretty remote part of the Murray river system. Managed to snag a few cod, some monster carp and also learned to stand up on the wake board. Recent trip up to the Mighty Murray! I was lucky enough to be invited on a close mates trip up to the river to pay respect where their uncles ashes were scattered. We caught well over 200 carp, with some monsters between them. Out of all the fish caught, only 4 were native species. A few months back @not_bad_adventures and I headed out on a mission to land our 15 yo mate his first ever gummy. Seeing someone have such a great time just hits different. Conditions were unreel. Landing 4 gummies and a couple of snapper we headed back in early. However we couldn’t resist jumping in for a look under a few ledges. One cray each we were pretty stoked. Nice little bug I snagged over the weekend. I’ve tried these guys, fried in garlic butter, baked with herbs, on the smoker split in half with garlic and herb butter and even cooked through a pasta. However the best way (for me at least) I’ve found is plain and simple, boiled and broken down into a salt and vinegar mix. Been stuck in rut lately catching bugger all. That all changed when I was able to get out on the weekend and land my first Bluefin Tuna. Had an epic session out chasing the old gumboots! Managed our bag quite easily and then released a few models as well. Sunday morning swim to bring home the bacon! Kind of 🤨 Since getting into the sport with nothing more than a $100 BCF basic snorkelling kit, I’ve slowly upgraded pieces to where I’m at now. This wet suit keeps me in the water to the point I’m more tired than cold when I get out! The gloves are the only pair I’ve had so far that haven’t been shredded by crays in the first 5 dives.
