🌴 #2026USCHA was simply amazing! We truly had a moment with all the incredible advocates, providers, researchers, and community leaders in Anaheim, California. ✨

This year's theme, "United and Unbreakable: 45 Years of the HIV Movement," led the charge all week — honoring nearly five decades of resilience, progress, and community-driven change. 💙❤️💛

We learned, connected, and recharged to keep this movement moving forward.
Now let's do it again — bigger and better next year in Dallas, TX 🤠 September 23–26 at the Hilton Anatole. Stay tuned! #2027USCHA by @nmachiv

It's Zero HIV Stigma Day! And to stop stigma, we need to start a conversation.

That's where The Playbook comes in. Created and hosted by @malachijstewart , each episode of The Playbook brings a different guest to the table to shape real conversations around sex-positivity, community power, and HIV advocacy.

The Playbook will be recorded LIVE this fall at 2026 USCHA in Anaheim, CA, and you're invited to have a front row seat. The 2026 USCHA theme is "United & Unbreakable: The HIV Movement at 45" to honor of 45 years of resilience and advocacy. The Playbook is more than a new podcast, it's one more way we honor 45 years of this movement. And it'll be the very first podcast ever recorded live at USCHA.

Stay tuned, we'll be sharing episode topics soon! In the meantime- register for 2026 USCHA at the link in bio. We'll see you in Anaheim!

New Partner Resource 📚

Our friends at @LULAC recently published a new resource highlighting the looming Medicaid funding cliff facing Puerto Rico. Current enhanced federal funding expires on September 30, 2027.

Without congressional action, federal Medicaid funding for the island could fall by nearly 90 percent in FY 2028, while the federal matching rate would drop from 76 percent to 55 percent. Medicaid supports health coverage for roughly 42 percent of Puerto Rico’s population, meaning a sharp funding reduction could significantly disrupt coverage and strain the island’s broader health system.

This report explains what's at stake and what needs to happen next. Equal care means equal funding 🇵🇷

—————-

More than 50% percent of people diagnosed with HIV are 50 years or older. Not because they’re Magic Johnson, but because HIV medication actually works.

Scaring people away won’t end the HIV epidemic, only treatment and prevention will. 🤎

📝 New on the NMAC Blog:

Sometimes we need to draw the whole river. 🌊

What happens to HIV test data? Who sees it? Why does it matter? Those are real questions, and communities deserve real answers.

Researchers at Emory University spent nine months co-creating a bilingual illustrated guide and animation with people living with HIV, community leaders, public health workers and clinicians. It explains how rapid HIV transmission is detected and how public health responds, including the parts that raise hard questions about privacy and trust.

More than 300 national leaders—experts on HIV and the needs surrounding it—led sessions, activities, and plenary gatherings at #uscha2026

Although some were exhausted by the work, we felt revitalized and were reminded of our purpose:

To empower our community and build a future where we all thrive.

Social determinants of health guided our conversations, while the MIPA principle (Meaningful Involvement of People Living with HIV) underpinned every action we took.

We also celebrated the people behind this work—those who continue to bring our advocacy, research, and campaigns to communities and beyond. It was a pleasure to be there together with @viivhealthcareus and NMAC’s Next Gen program and witness the power of youth in the movement to end the HIV epidemic.

And joy was with us every step of the way.

The road ahead is challenging. But we are stronger.

Stay tuned to this space for updates on the collaborations and strategies that emerged from USCHA 2026. by @nmachiv
