Luke 13:10-13 NKJV
“Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, ‘Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.’ And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.”
Jesus was teaching in the synagogue, and He saw a woman bent over because of arthritis, probably. She had not been able to straighten her spine for 18 long years. Notice that verse 11 ends with the phrase “and could in no way raise herself up.” This means that the woman had done everything possible to raise herself to no avail. Jesus not only saw her condition, but He also saw her efforts over the years to fight for her health. She had probably been a regular at the synagogue for 18 years. Yet she was not healed of her condition, until Jesus intervened.
There are certain situations in life you cannot change by mere human efforts. This is not an argument against taking ownership. We must still recognize the importance of trying to change an unpleasant reality. However, certain changes only happen when God intervenes. Isn’t it wonderful that when He did, the outcome was instant? This passage is a reminder that we must keep showing up in God’s presence because any day can be our day of divine visitation. She was bent over with infirmity, but God delivered her, elevated her and her story changed.
Father, help me to keep showing up in your presence. Please intervene and elevate me in every situation of my life where I cannot raise myself up in Jesus Name. Amen.

‎"The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful,a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of think. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be". Jeremiah 17:9-10 MSG
‎
‎The prophet Jeremiah is prophesying to people to put their trust in God rather than in man.
‎
‎I tend to trust human beings a little too much. Because of that, I got my fingers burnt a lot of times. With the benefit of hindsight, I have learned to trust God more, even though He will use human beings to help me.
‎
‎Father, please forgive me for the times I removed my focus from you, and centered it on humans. Help me to trust you more and more each day in Jesus Name. Amen 🙏

TAMAR: A BIBLE BADDIE?

The Bible is rich with stories of women whose lives challenge, inspire, and teach. Some Bible women are considered baddies. The dictionary defines a baddie to mean a villain, usually a woman, who does bad things for bad reasons. Tamar is a woman in the Bible who fits this description on the surface. Her story is found in Genesis 38. Any way you tell her story you eventually come to a scene that, even to the most unflappable mind, doesn’t sit well on the psyche. A young woman poses as a prostitute so she can sleep with her father-in-law. Intentionally. Interestingly, this temporary prostitute is honourably mentioned in the Books of Ruth, 1 Chronicles and Matthew as an ancestor of David and Jesus. Unbelievable!

Does this mean the end justifies the means? NO. Like the meaning of her name (palm tree), Tamar may have been tall and slim. Judah may have picked her to be his son's wife because of her child-bearing hips. However, what we do know about her is her quick mind and her bravery. She got married to Error, sorry Er, Judah's firstborn. He died for mistreating her because God was fighting for Tamar. Because Judah wanted grandchildren, he insisted she should marry his second son. Onan refused to get her pregnant and God killed him too. Seeing that both of his sons were dead, Judah told Tamar not to remarry and sent her back to her father's house with the promise of giving her to Shelah the youngest son when he came of age. But, Judah had no intention of keeping that promise because he thought Tamar was a witch. Sounds like a Nollywood movie, right?

After some years, Judah lost his wife. Shelah had grown up but there was no talk of his marriage to Tamar. By withholding Shelah, Judah had dishonored Tamar and disgraced her by sending her back to her parents. Judah had deceived her! So, she took matters into her own hands. She thought to herself, "Judah is now a widower and free to take a wife. I'll take what was promised to me". Have you ever run ahead of God by taking things into your own hands? How did it end?

LONG CAPTION ALERT
Happy International Women's Day to all women. This year's theme is "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress".

‭‭Luke 8:1-3 TPT‬‬
[1] Soon afterward, Jesus began a ministry tour throughout the country, visiting cities and villages to announce the wonderful news of God’s kingdom. His twelve disciples traveled with him [2] as did a number of women who had been healed of many illnesses and set free from demonic power. One of the women was Mary who was from the village of Magdala, from whom Jesus had cast out seven demons. Among the women were Susanna and [3] Joanna, the wife of Chusa, who managed King Herod’s household. Many other women who supported Jesus’ ministry from their own personal finances also traveled with him.

While He was on earth, Jesus invested in women and they, in turn, responded to His investment as seen in the above Scripture quote.
Investing in other women, as Jesus did, emphasizes empowerment, support, and community-building. It reflects values of compassion, equality, and solidarity. Supporting and uplifting one another can create opportunities for growth and success for all.

I challenge you as we celebrate IWD 2024 to be intentional about investing in other women. Thank you
