“If you need me, call me is a performance that experiments with our natural inclination to attach a sound to movement. NMLY.dance uses improvisational techniques to generate a farcical song and dance. This dance employs humorous tropes such as lip syncing and game show antics to explore social and performative constructs.  Imagine the Muppets enter the Judson Church Theater at the birth of Post-Modern Dance and decide to try their hand at a Way Off Broadway Performance Art Vaudevillian Variety Show.” taken in MATCH - Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston by @nmlydance

MEET ARTIST: @nmlydance 💥👯‍♀️🪩

NMLY.dance is the collaborative venture of choreographers Nicole McNeil and Lori Yuill, born from years of studio practice. Their work merges individual artistic interests into a shared exploration of multidisciplinary performance. With a commitment to deepening their collaborative practice, they invite diverse voices to influence their creative direction, aiming to intertwine various artistic forms to reveal new narratives and rediscover past works.

In the fall of 2023, McNeil and Yuill found themselves co-working in the Houston Met studios. Co-working quickly morphed into collaborating on a dance called Drenched in Longing. NMLY.dance emerged centered around a project called everyday more dystopian, a growing catalog of dances, performances and workshops that aim to spark a renewed interest between humans and the natural world in an effort to inspire a deeper connection to nature, fostering appreciation for its beauty, fragility and the importance of ecological awareness and sustainability.

Thank you Mix-Match for including @nmlydance in the festival! We had a great time bringing “everyday more dystopian: miss climate change 2028” to life. For those who have asked, we are thinking of “everyday more dystopian” as an umbrella project to house a continuing body of work. Stay tuned for more dystopian adventures. by @nmlydance

The the entropic playground closes this weekend with performances on Friday and Saturday November 29th and 30th at 8pm.

Enjoy this photo slide show featuring photographs by @tativice

After appearing in @dancesource Mind the Gap 30 and @texdanceimprovfest this fall NMLY.dance makes it's feature length debut with a 3 week run of its current project at Houston Met Dance in the Phoenix Studio Theatre.

everyday more dystopian: entropic playground is a multidisciplinary presentation/installation that explores themes of destruction, nature, environmental impact, and human relationships.

NMLY.dance under the co-artistic direction of Nicole McNeil and Lori Yuill is is a convergence of their intersectional interests and individual studio practices.

The result is projects that explore multimedia performance using dance, projections, and sound design, always with the goal of melding different perspectives in order to build new/next worlds for audiences to inhabit with them.

everyday more dystopian: entropic playground features projection design by Brian Buck, a collaboratively developed set installation initiated by multidisciplinary artist @katelynhalperndotcom World Building workshops that were offered in early September, and a collaboratively developed sound score.

Meet the Artists of entropic playground:

(Performer/ Choreographer and Set Design) Lori Yuill has been engaged in making dances for the past two decades. Her work includes ongoing research into the in-between spaces: the space between narrative and abstraction, choreography and improvisation, and between performance and rehearsal. Lori is drawn to site specific work because of the opportunity to learn from and about different places like the Flower Garden Banks off the shore of Galveston, or Finca Tres Robles a farm located in Houston’s East End where she made “Green Zebras: Moringa Madness” In addition to making dances for specific spaces, Lori has made several evening length works for the stage including “The Remembering Happens” created during a residency at Rice University. Her choreographic interests in collaboration, research and process infuse her teaching practice as well. She works with a variety of organizations to bring dance to curious movers and thinkers.
