A research team at the University of Illinois Chicago is looking for individuals (50-69 years old, with and without relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis) to participate in a research study that aims to develop improved tests of aerobic capacity. You would come to the lab twice, with no more than 7 days in between. You would perform all-out exercise at the first visit and less intense exercise at the second. You would also wear an activity monitor between the visits. Compensation is available. If interested, please contact Dr. Paul Hibbing (phibbing@uic.edu) or Dr. Brooks Hibner (bhibne2@uic.edu). We are incredibly grateful to the City of Washington for issuing a proclamation recognizing MS Awareness Month. 🧡

This meaningful gesture helps shine a light on multiple sclerosis and the thousands of individuals and families impacted by this disease. Raising awareness is vital — it fuels understanding, encourages early diagnosis, supports research efforts, and strengthens our community’s commitment to those living with MS.

Together, through education, advocacy, and compassion, we can continue to make progress toward better treatments and ultimately a cure. Thank you to the City of Washington for standing with the MS community and helping us amplify this important message.

We are proud to introduce Tony Hnilicka as the 2026 Chair of the National MS Society Central Illinois Community Council!

Tony brings a strong passion for community, dedicated leadership, and a heartfelt commitment to advancing the mission of the National MS Society across Central Illinois.

Tony shared:
“I’m truly honored and humbled to step into this role. This opportunity is especially meaningful as a way to honor my late mom, who lived with MS and inspired me through her courage, service, and leadership. I’m grateful for the support of our council, colleagues, friends, and family, and I’m excited to help carry this mission forward.”

Please join us in congratulating Tony and wishing him a successful and inspiring year ahead!

Isolation can feel overwhelming when you don’t see yourself represented. In many Black communities, conversations about illness have often happened quietly.

For those living with MS, that silence can deepen an already isolating experience. But when one person shares their story, something begins to change.

“Getting involved in patient advocacy work, I began to speak with Black women and heard the same story over and over again — they had never met another Black person with MS.” — Victoria

This Black History Month, we honor the power of moving from silence to connection because representation builds community, and community creates hope.
