They tried silence. They tried exile. They tried erasure. I am still here.

After all the storms I’ve walked through, I am still smiling, not because I’m strong, not because I’m unbreakable, but because I’m covered. Favored. Blessed.

I finally learned that I don’t owe my side of the story to anyone. My truth doesn’t need validation, and my silence is not weakness, it’s wisdom. It is not my responsibility to correct the misconceptions, address the rumors or validate any second hand story that has my name; I’m no longer burdened by the need to defend my name against whispers, lies, or assumptions. That freedom… is hard-earned. And I’m proud of the woman I’ve become through the fire.

Even those who tried to shatter me, I still pray they find peace. Because I won’t carry bitterness on a soul that’s already carrying victory.

Be you. Boldly. Fiercely. Unapologetically. The world already has enough copies.

Today, I found myself thinking about something we rarely discuss:

What do we actually want when we’re gone?

For me, if I leave this world before old age, please do not assume I wanted a celebration centered around food, socializing, and catching up.

If my husband and children are grieving, I would rather people come, pray, offer comfort, pay their respects, and quietly return home.

Feed the hungry.
Help a struggling family.
Support a widow.
Bless a child in need.

Let our final wishes be known instead of assumed.

My funeral is not a party.
Grief is not entertainment.

Let’s have these conversations while we are still here.

Thank y’all for saving America tonight!!! We did it!!!

P.S. Apparently, Instagram has been limiting my reach ever since I started using my platform to encourage Americans to exercise their right to vote. I’ve lost over 10,000 followers, and frankly, I couldn’t care less.

If speaking against injustice costs me followers, so be it. If standing for humanity costs me visibility, that’s a price I’m willing to pay.

My conscience is not for sale. My convictions are not negotiable. And my silence will never be the price of social media acceptance.

I would rather lose an audience than lose my humanity.

Because history will never remember how many followers we had. It will remember what we stood for when standing up came at a cost.

Hold people accountable when necessary. But never confuse judgment with wisdom or public humiliation with justice.

Because the moment we believe we know everything about someone, we may have revealed more about the limits of our understanding than the truth of their character.

Certainty is easy. Understanding requires humility.

I listened to a Black person criticize Barack Obama with such venom and condescension that I was genuinely embarrassed.

WHAT DID THIS MAN DO TO Y’ALL???

Obama is not above criticism. But when did political disagreement become an excuse for such profound contempt?

Perhaps the greatest tragedy of oppression is not the hatred it inspires in others, but the hatred it teaches us to reproduce among ourselves.

A people divided against themselves need no conqueror. Their division has already done the work.

But tell me, how do we expect the world to respect our humanity when we struggle to recognize it in one another?

Some people were never friends. They were simply familiar strangers with privileged access to your soul.

Perhaps the most dangerous mistake we make is believing that being admired is the same as being admirable.
