The training provided valuable expertise that will strengthen diagnostic capacity and improve care for people living with haemophilia and other blood disorders in Madagascar. This collaboration is helping strengthen local expertise and expand access to multidisciplinary #haemophilia care in the DRC. For far too long, sickle cell disease and haemophilia have not received the investment needed to transform care in Ghana. The International Sickle Cell Centre (@isccghana ) joined and supported the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia & Haemoglobinopathies Foundation (@nnhf_foundation ) during its recent visit to Ghana, engaging with stakeholders from the Ministry of Health (@mohgovgh ), Ghana Health Service (@_ghsofficial ), Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (@nmimr_ug ), Clinton Health Access Initiative (@chai_globalhealth ), University of Ghana Medical Centre, Ghana Institute of Clinical Genetics, and the Alliance of Sickle Cell Organisations Ghana (ASCOG). The visit also included home visits to individuals and families affected by these conditions and a multi-stakeholder workshop, with participation from ISCCโ€™s co-founders, Dr. Mary Dede Ansong (@dr.maryansong ) and Pharm. Martha Wiafe (@kakra16 ), alongside colleagues from ASCOG. Despite the strong commitment of healthcare professionals, government stakeholders and patient advocates, significant gaps remain in diagnosis, access to treatment and financial protection for affected families. NNHFโ€™s visit presents an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration, mobilise investment and drive sustainable improvements in sickle cell disease and haemophilia care within Ghanaโ€™s health system. Young leaders can shape the future of haemophilia care. ๐ŸŒฑ Watch the @haemophilia_sl Haemophilia Association of Sri Lankaโ€™s video from ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ญ ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ: ๐„๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ, ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐ž, ๐‹๐ž๐š๐, held for its Youth Group last month. ๐ŸŽฅ Participants developed leadership skills for their own goals and for leading their patient organisation. The workshop built on a 2025 NNHF exchange visit to @hemophiliafederationin Hemophilia Federation (India), where HASL members learned practical ways to organise programmes and advocate for their community. ๐Ÿค NNHF has supported HFIโ€™s Youth Group since 2011; former youth members now hold senior leadership roles within HFI. Strong patient organisations are one indicator of a countryโ€™s self-sufficiency in haemophilia and bleeding disorders. Last week in Dar es Salaam, NNHF and Africa CDC, co-funded with the Novo Nordisk Foundation, officially launched a partnership to support the implementation of the Continental Plan for Sickle Cell Disease and Other Inherited Blood Disorders. ๐Ÿ“– Endorsed by all African Union Member States, the Plan provides a roadmap to improve care and outcomes across the continent. ๐Ÿค Through this partnership, NNHF will support implementation in 10 African countries. ๐ŸŽค We were honoured to hear from health leaders, government representatives, and community advocates who shared why urgent action is needed for people living with sickle cell disease and haemophilia. โค๏ธ Together, we are working towards better health outcomes and stronger health systems across Africa. ๐Ÿ“ธImpact Spotlight: August ๐Ÿ“ธ Meet Karishma, the mother of two boys living with severe haemophilia A in Mauritius ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡บ Before they had access to care and treatment, hospital visits were a regular part of family life. Bleeds and bruises often disrupted school, daily activities and family routines. Today, with care and treatment available, her sons rarely need hospital care and are no longer missing school ๐ŸŽ’. The family has also benefited from psychosocial support through the NNHF-supported programme with the Haemophilia Association of Mauritius, helping them better understand the condition and navigate everyday life with confidence ๐Ÿ’™. Access to care changes more than health outcomes. It creates opportunities for children to learn, grow and participate fully in life, while giving families the knowledge and support they need ๐Ÿค. And partners across East Africa, West Francophone Africa, Central America and the Caribbean, Portuguese-speaking Africa and the Vanilla Islands continued to connect and share expertise within their regions.
