Made it to Blue Heaven… @ 40th Anniversary of Acoustic Sounds. Last night was absolutely surreal! I never envisioned enjoying a Cajun meal while talking music with the great Taj Mahal… or playing back to back sets with my old label mate, the incomparable Marquise Knox and his band; glad to have some photo proof it happened! Many stories I’d love to relay.. I’ll have to circle back to articulate on a later date; all I can say is I’m grateful! 🙏 by @noah.wotherspoon

A pit stop in Vandalia, Illinois @ sundown
The Statehouse State Historic Site ~ Built in 1836, it is the oldest surviving state capitol building in Illinois. Abraham Lincoln served here as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives starting in 1834 and launched his political career/received his law license. by @noah.wotherspoon

Headed back this weekend to where a big part of my musical life began… Salina, Kansas for Acoustic Sounds 40th Anniversary Vinyl Summit and Blues Festival! Back in High School, I cut my first studio album for APO @ Blue Heaven Studio there (w/ Josh Johnson and Marty Romie). We were fortunate enough to record with Hubert Sumlin during those sessions… a few cuts of which ended up on the album. Thinking back to those days and the greyhound bus trips from Dayton to Kansas, I feel more grateful than ever to have spent time with a host of first generation bluesmen that Chad was recording or featuring at the Blues Masters at the Crossroads Festivals… thinking of Henry Townsend, Little Hatch, Honeyboy Edwards, Detroit Junior and Jimmie Lee Robinson. Looking forward to catching up with Chad, Jimmy D. Lane and the Acoustic Sounds family!
