A lot of amazing things can be said about this past weekend, but there are a few from this journey that stuck with me the most:

I get to choose my suffering. Some people don’t, and they still show up every day. People like Irene. Always smiling, no matter what she’s carrying. She’s the real warrior, the real “Ironman”, along with so many others.
Perspective is everything.

Community. I couldn’t have gotten to the start line had I not stepped on the shoulders of many others around me. The people along the way are what matter most.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity and support shown through the WSA fundraiser. In just a few short weeks, we were able to raise over $8,500, something that truly means the world to Irene and I.

More than anything, this journey has allowed Irene’s story, and the reality of Williams syndrome, to reach so many people. Knowing that her story is now being seen, heard, and understood is more meaningful than we can put into words.

I am excited to finally share something that I have been working on for the past few months.

For those of you who don’t know my little cousin Irene, she was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome at 2 months old. Ever since I can remember, she has been the light of our entire family. Irene has a special way of putting a smile on the face of anyone she meets, and her constant love and support for those around her has never gone unnoticed.

Throughout my training, I found myself thinking about her often and about the many ways I could show my appreciation for the joy and strength she brings to all of our lives.

With that being said, on April 18th I’ll be racing Ironman Texas to raise awareness for Irene and for Williams Syndrome.

I’m excited to see how our contributions can help bring greater awareness and recognition to Williams Syndrome.
