I built a small tool for painters. Call it What If.

You know the passage that isn't working. Now you can tap it, see three regional alternatives — cooler, warmer, lighter, darker — and answer "what if I changed that" without touching the canvas.

If you like what you see, take the risk. If not, you never took it.

Try it on one of yours. Link in bio.

Red was the first thing. Everything else built around it. The blue lines are what stopped it from becoming pure color and nothing else. Every time I tried to soften the red, the painting told me to stop.

The meteor shower peaks tomorrow night. I'll set an alarm for 2am, forget it, then stand outside at 3am wondering if those two lights were meteors or airplanes.

I've painted the sky lighting up plenty of times. I've rarely seen it in person. This is Polar Lights — the version I invented when the real thing wouldn't cooperate. Which is the point of being a painter.

Client commissioned this painting months ago. It started as a conversation about color — she wanted something that would live big, refuse to be quiet, and hold its own on the wall she had in mind. We talked, I sketched, we talked again. Somewhere between the two we agreed on what the painting should feel like.

Then I spent a week painting it, mostly convinced I was getting it wrong. That is how commissions go for me. And then I stopped worrying and let the painting be what it wanted to be.

She came to the opening to see it hung. This is us standing next to it. The best part of the process is not finishing a painting — it is the moment the collector stands in front of what they trusted you to make.

Commissions are open — DM if you're thinking about one. I promise to do the worrying so you don't have to.

Original abstract light painting by Noam Aharon — Solstice, acrylic and mixed media on wood panel, 24×24 in.

The longest day — or the shortest. A solar event compressed into color.

Yellow-green at the crown. Burning orange-red at the center. Cooling into blue below. A fine grid of scratched lines runs across the surface, as if the light itself has been measured.

I normally trust color over structure. With this one I let them argue. The grid is structure showing up uninvited and refusing to leave; the colors are what was already there and didn't appreciate being interrupted. Somehow they reached an agreement. I'm still not sure what it was.

Dark Ground series
8×10 in each | Acrylic on paper | $350 each. Link in bio → artbynoam.com

Black against white. Nine small paintings that ask only what a mark can hold — its weight, its speed, its direction.

No color. No gradation. Just the force of the stroke and the silence around it.

These nine are the ones that survived. The original series was fifty, which means forty-one of these paintings are currently face-down in the studio, mildly offended. I've made peace with most of them. A few are still arguing with me.

Carousel: share all 9 in one post for the visual impact

In Detonation, black gestural passages radiate from a molten center of orange and red, arresting the moment of maximum expansion. The composition holds at the peak of an event — neither its beginning nor its aftermath, but the instant before dispersal.
The work belongs to Noam Aharon's Raw Gesture series: paintings where the mark is treated as both structure and content. The vocabulary is centrifugal, drawing on the black-on-ground tradition of postwar abstraction — Kline, Motherwell — while retaining the calligraphic pressure of Aharon's studies with Master Jingxiao in Shenzhen.

As America marks its 250th year, Manhattan offers not a monument but a meditation — the city rendered as pattern and energy, its grid dissolved from above until geometry reads less like architecture than weather.

Aerial perspective removes New York's most familiar terms and returns something older: rhythm, density, direction. Built through layered acrylic, corrugated cardboard, and embedded newsprint — materials that mirror the city's own construction.

The work belongs to Noam Aharon's Human Presence series: paintings that describe the human world at the point where it becomes environment.

In Imagined, a vertical axis of luminous gold rises through an atmospheric ground, anchored by darker passages at the painting's edges and doubled by its reflection below. The handling moves between gesture and vapor. Color functions as both substance and light, the central event neither fire nor sky but the threshold between them.

SAVE ME! (Heat & Force series)
The largest painting I've made. The Earth seen from above, a hurricane turning slowly below — and the words written in white, dripping.
I'm not someone who writes on paintings often. This one needed it. The planet is speaking, or the storm is, or all of us watching. Depends on the day.

4 — Turquoise Lake (Open Land series)
39×47 in | Acrylic & mixed media on canvas | $6,400
Some paintings are made for looking at. This one is made for breathing next to.
I was thinking about stillness — not emptiness, but the kind of quiet that has weight to it. Water so calm it almost looks solid. A color that takes about ten seconds to land.
People often tell me this piece changes the room it's in. I think that's the best thing a painting can do: change the temperature of a place, lower the volume a little.
