Burnt Umber Oak

We have recently added a new stain into our library of offerings. Made from a rich, open grain, flat cut european white oak, this Burnt Umber stain is the perfect pairing with lighter complementary materials & monochromatic inclinations. Pair it with one of our solid wood countertops, or this emphatic blue grey marble from our friends @vancouverislandmarble

We celebrate the organic, ever changing character and tones within this particular species. Available in our DATUM and HOLD Designs.

Client Project: Full House

It’s hard to know where to start when thinking about this truly flawless home, the extraordinary clients who reside here or the pair of refreshingly dynamic companies – @leckiestudio @gaileguevarastudio – that championed its build & design. This multi-generational home in Vancouver is unparalleled in so very many ways, from its layout to its flow and all the intricate details therein.

The clients were after a workable storage scenario in their laundry nook, as well as a custom continuation of their existing Danish designed wooden wall hanger / shelf. The brief was to come up with an integrated design that matched the aesthetic, allowing for a clever storage option for the necessary accoutrements for laundry days, while allowing it to become a space not only for the residence but also act as a refreshments area for their overnight guests.

We employed a brushed European White Oak for the cabinet fronts, deck and shelving unit along with one of our standard options for our casework – white melamine in plywood core, as the cabinet base. Swipe for the before 👉🏼

Client Project: Pender

This was a superb project to be a part of. These lovely clients were in the process of building their dream vacation cabin with the masterful team at Backcountry Hut Company, looking for quality millwork to bring a sense of cohesion to the beautiful Hemlock lined ceilings and walls that were beginning to take shape. By carefully coaxing the VG Douglas Fir to fall more in line with Hemlock, we were able to meld seamlessly the two materials.

The foundational casework was made from a sturdy birch plywood. (FYI – All our cabinet boxes + bases are made in our standard white melamine or birch finish, both plywood core and always three quarters of an inch thick.)

Our work is placed throughout this space in the kitchen by way of door and drawer fronts, island panels and gables, pantry fronts, toe kick, range hood box and floating shelves with aircraft grade aluminum floating shelf hardware, as well as the bathroom vanity, custom fit storage box solutions eked out what would have been lost space in the lofted bedroom, providing additional storage in the compact space.

Needless to say, we are continually inspired by terrific talent all around us.

Client Project: Doulton
—
Our wonderful clients wanted to combine a mix of designs in their kitchen, denoting the upper cabinets from the lower cabinets by choosing golden warm wood tones with our CHANNEL Design in Solid White Oak. This project consists of Ikea Sektion bases throughout with a customized upper cabinet to the right of the window, that includes a built-in shelf below for display of their beautiful ceramics.

It's always inspiring and joyful to see the transformation of a space to better suit the aesthetic & spacial requirements of the client, truly facilitating a feeling of completeness and comfort in their everyday experience. Introducing: HOLD
—
We are delighted to introduce a new design we've developed, offering an integrated solid wood handle which spans the width of the drawer front. Centered on the underside of the handle is a subtle finger pull for ease of use while remaining hidden from view. We detailed the design with our specific dimensions to offer enough space to grasp the handle while reducing the protrusion in order to marry with a discreet countertop overhang.

It's important to us to design in a manner that embodies both function and intuitiveness; we believe that these elements not only contribute to the space visually but transform our interactions within. Creating millwork as functional furniture is at the core of our company—we are inspired to design products that simultaneously elevate and act as a backdrop for life.

This design is shown in our Black Brushed Oak real wood veneer + solid oak handle, and is also available in our custom stained Washed Douglas Fir as well as Ash. Built to outfit our Bespoke Cabinet Boxes which are made from a 3/4" plywood core, it also works for the Ikea Systems we work with: Sektion, Besta, Pax + Godmorgen.

Client Project: Ambassador Residence
—
We're looking forward to sharing more photos of this project with you all soon and of the areas where we installed our products: the main kitchen, dirty kitchen, two bathrooms, boys bunk room, reading nook and the mudroom. In the interim, here's a look at the beautiful primary bathroom. A few details we love – the hidden medicine cabinet, the linear dimmable light flush set into the wall and the side mounted brass faucets.

Featuring our CHANNEL Design in Solid Walnut you'll also find our Bespoke Base system for the vanity box, made from a white melamine finish, 3/4" plywood core. Our CHANNEL Design fronts are always cut from a solid piece of wood versus the additive way you might initially perceive with this design.

Client Project: The Windsor Penthouse
—
We created our INDEX Design fronts for this low, wall to wall media unit in a penthouse residence using Ikea Besta. The client opted for a two tone aesthetic: the INDEX doors are soft black while the side + top panels are off white. Their intention was to have the millwork complement the furniture & objects within this carefully thought out space.

Client Project: Sea + Sky
—
The wonderful interior design of this residential presentation suite was helmed by the creative team at Laura Melling Studio. We were brought on to provide custom millwork in a few key areas around the home: Primary Bedroom, Living Room Media Wall and in the Den.

For the Primary Bedroom we created this headboard with an integrated art ledge, from solid white oak & real white oak veneer in our natural finish. Unlike the traditional lacquer that adds an amber hue, our natural finish simply protects the wood while retaining the beautiful natural colours and tones in the grain. It's also super matte + soft to the touch. More soon.

Our CHANNEL design shown on an Ikea Besta unit, these solid white oak doors represent a diligent attention to detail in both the design & finish. The real wood veneer side panels and top are specifically matched to the doors to create a refined furniture grade piece.

Client Project: ARCANA
—
Earlier this summer we were fortunate to work with two enormously talented teams: @leckiestudio + @findarcana on a very special project. We felt an immediate alignment with the ethos of what the team at Arcana is trying to create in the world and were inspired by the way in which they formulated their concept.

Our scope, to work closely with Leckie Studio to bring to life the kitchen and bathroom millwork packages for this new retreat outside of Toronto, using Ikea bases as the foundation and our custom drawer boxes. We were deeply inspired by the way Leckie Studio meticulously works through every detail imaginable; details are the most important to us as well.

The brief, to create alchemy and bring two woods species – maple and pine – into alignment so our fronts would blend seamlessly with the pine wrapped interiors. This colour match was necessary due to material shortages and delays, an issue that we've become quite adept at navigating.

We have to say—we're so proud of the end result.
