October workshop with Joel Sedano! Join us for Against the Record: Generating Poems from the Legal Archive:: This workshop explores how legal texts, often experienced as opaque, violent, or disempowering, can be transformed into sites of poetic reimagination and resistance. Drawing on the tradition of documentary and archival poetics practiced by M. NourbeSe Philip, Patricia Smith, Tyehimba Jess, Claudia Rankine, and others, the session examines how poets repurpose legal and administrative language to expose power, critique institutional violence, and imagine alternative futures. // details and registration at nodearmagazine.com/workshops by @nodear_mag

November workshop with danilo machado! Join us for Passenger Poems:: Subway, bus, and train rides are our everyday as poets living in New York. They
bring us to places we need to and want to go; blurring between public and private, between meditative and chaotic. They (under)ground us in place, but also seem to exist in a unique plane both bigger and smaller than our city. How can these in-between spaces of proximity and connection become the subject of poems? We’ll read transit poems, then write our own. // details and registration at nodearmagazine.com/workshops by @nodear_mag

September workshop with zakia henderson-brown! Join us for Mad As Hell: The Poetics of Rage:: To paraphrase Solange’s timeless reminder: there is a lot to be mad about. Or, as this workshop’s patron saint June Jordan eloquently asks: “what in the hell is everybody being reasonable about”? In this generative poetry workshop, we will explore how anger has been employed in contemporary poetry, and to what effect: humor? agitation? catharsis? Together, we will read, discuss, and draw inspiration from texts by June Jordan, Martin Espada, D.M. Spratley, Marcus Wicker, Mary Ruefle, and others. We will engage in writing exercises and benefit from prompts and small group discussions that will allow writers of all levels to begin to develop their own poetics of rage. // details and registration at nodearmagazine.com/workshops by @nodear_mag

What’s lost when physical signals are rendered as fixed and discrete values? For No, Dear’s 2027 chapbook series, a collection of debut works by NYC poets, we’re looking for cycles of poems that engage with the analog(ue): the protean, the polyvocal, the perpetual, the tactile. Send us your homophones and homographs, your odd proportions and unlikely connections. Series edited by Elaina Friedman, Arden Levine & danilo machado.

Submissions open only to No, Dear poets (issues 1-35) & their nominees, August 1-31

August workshop with Rishona Michael. Join us for The Power of Control:: Political poetry is often an exploration of power—how it is claimed, challenged, withheld, and returned. It can be used for documentation, critique, protest, and advocation. It can call attention, bear witness, and give voice. In this class we will study the way power shows up in poetry. We will understand when to hold power, when to release it, and how language can shift authority. Together we will discover how to use our own diction and voice to declare or yield power and return it back to the community. // details and registration at nodearmagazine.com/workshops by @nodear_mag
