Finally sharing some of my work from the last year.

It was an incredible experience animating dinosaurs for Jurassic World Rebirth and working on projects at Industrial Light and Magic and Cinesite. This reel covers the range between heavy creature physics and more nuanced, stylized character performance.
Whether it is a T-Rex with five tons of coming up with ways of hiding the burnt turkey, I love the challenge of pushing my animation skills.

If you had told the kid who watched Jurassic Park in 1993 that he’d grow up to animate a T Rex for a Jurassic film… no chance he’d believe you.

Working on Jurassic World Rebirth was a blast and a real career milestone. I learned so much from the incredible ILM leads and supervisors on the show and loved every minute of bringing these creatures to life.

A lot of my shots ended up on the cutting room floor, but a few survived as deleted scenes so I can finally share a glimpse of the work even if it never reached full final render!

Ever tried animating a full shot in Unreal instead of Maya? This breakdown is from my Unreal Fellowship project where I did exactly that.

I built it in Unreal 5.3 using the Dragon Warrior character and the Deep Elders Cave. The character only came with bones and weights, so I built the control rig from scratch and animated everything directly in engine. Our whole fellowship team spent three intense weeks learning Unreal inside out, from Sequencer to Control Rig to MetaHuman, and it was one of the fastest learning curves I’ve ever had. Massive thanks to @unrealengine for the opportunity.

The tools have evolved a lot since then, but this project still proves how quickly you can pick things up once you dive in. Finally sharing it now.

Another old shot today and it still cracks me up. I used dialogue from Secret Life of 5 Year Olds on Channel 4 and somehow unlocked my inner kid for the entire thing. My workflow has moved on since, but this reminds me how much energy you get when you let the character lead you.

If you want stronger dialogue work start with the reference and push the personality right there. Let yourself mess around. It pays off in the final take.

Reference is where most of the magic starts for me. It is the quickest way to find honest movement and ideas you would never think of by guesswork alone. I am always surprised by how much a shot improves once I act it out, push it, and break it down.

Remember to keep things fun!

I found this old animation and it threw me straight back into that playful state where you are just trying ideas for the joy of it. No pressure. No rules. Just that spark that makes animation feel alive. When you lean into that energy the work always feels fresher.

During my free time I've been practicing my dialogue and emotional acting with this scene I really wanted to animate from 'La La Land'. It's at a point I'm happy with and would love to share it with you all.

Also, the choice of dialogue could not be anymore relevant in the current economic climate. It is a question so many have been asking themselves after countless applications to studios when there is such little work around as well as layoffs. We all have that moment. Are we good enough? Will we ever be? Sometimes you need that someone to tell you that you are and to keep going.

You're always good enough!

Today has been a very good day.

I started as an Animator at Industrial Light & Magic! A role I felt so far away from a number of years ago but now to be joining the animation team it’s truly awesome.

Everyone is so nice, and I’m so looking forward to what the year holds.
