Have you ever stopped to look at the stories hiding in Northampton’s murals? 👀 We took a little walk through downtown and discovered some pretty amazing connections to Northampton’s past—from a famous 1876 bank robbery and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 🐢 to nearly 400 years of local women’s history and a four-story celebration of children’s book illustration. 📚🎨 And this is only a small part of the public art you can find around downtown! Swipe through and take a walk with ILI. 💛 by @nohoarts

Fun times Saturday evening with a decent sized salsa crowd for a great season finale of Salsa In The Park. Thanks everyone for coming, this id my favorite way to celebrate mi cumpleaños. Even though there was the threat of rain, one of my turntables died (luckily I had time to go to my studio and grab a replacement), and it was a holiday weekend, plus I was up against other salsa nights and parties in the area, as well as the 3 County Fair, we still managed to fill the floor and dance to a few choice vinyl records, old and new. Thanks to @cityofnorthampton and @nohoarts for having me back; to @sanderpune and @mcquills for their continued support; big up to @moiragreto and @drmaricastaneda for the pics and vids, hug to @ag1silver for coming by; mil gracias a mi viejo amigo de Latin Night y DJ partner “Joey Acevedo” for the birthday wishes; and to everyone in Pulaski Park for keeping the vibe positive, inclusive and mellow, especially my loyal dancers from way back. ¡Que viva la salsa, carajo! #salsainthepark by @nohoarts

Fun Sized Launches Northampton’s First Tiny Public Art Festival! A citywide scavenger hunt transforms downtown into an interactive experience of miniature public art SEPTEMBER 26-27TH This fall, downtown Northampton will become home to a citywide treasure hunt of miniature public art. Opening September 26–27 and remaining on view throughout October, Fun Sized: A Tiny Public Art Festival invites visitors to slow down, look closer, and rediscover downtown Northampton through fifteen miniature, site specific artworks hidden throughout the city. Using a free printed or digital map, visitors will search for tiny murals, sculptures, installations, and unexpected artistic interventions tucked into overlooked corners and everyday spaces. Along the way, participants collect clues that lead to the festival’s final hidden artwork—the Golden Moment. “Fun Sized is about rewarding attention,” says co-founder Kim Carlino.”When we slow down and look closely, we begin to notice things we might otherwise miss—not only the artwork, but the city itself.” The inaugural festival features work by local and regional artists: Adam O’Day, Chelsea Dupois, Cicely Carew, Dina Gjertsen, Erika Zekos, Eva Pushkova, Felipe Ortiz, Fred & David Zinn, John Higby, M. Rudder, Maggie Nowinski, Mary Cleary, Michael Medeiros, Raishad Glover, Sally Curcio, and Scout Cuomo. Opening weekend coincides with the Northampton Jazz Festival, creating a vibrant weekend where art, music, local businesses, and public spaces come together throughout downtown. Produced by Bright Matter Studio, founded by artists Kim Carlino and Michael Crigler, and developed with committee members Alison Curphey, Natalee Dias, Mike Bray, Justin Brown, and Clara Barnhart. The festival is made possible through support from the Mass Cultural Council, Northampton Arts Council, the City of Northampton, and numerous local businesses and community partners.
