This summer, we had the incredible opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, one of the great concert halls of the world as part of NOI+F Music Director Marin Alsop’s Perspectives series. At this performance, Maestra Alsop led a program that weaved together various perspectives of the American experience. String trio Time for Three joined the NOI Philharmonic for Kevin Puts' "Contact."

We still can’t believe that our Carnegie Hall debut was just over a week ago! One of the highlights was performing Kevin Puts’ “Contact,” under Marin Alsop’s baton and with the extraordinary @timeforthree. Written for the string trio, this concerto highlights the fundamental need for human connection, emphasized during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were honored that Puts joined us for our debut. Fun fact: Time for Three’s double bass player Ranaan Meyer participated in NOI+F in 1999 and 2000.

This Saturday, the 2026 National Orchestral Institute + Festival concludes with music of renewal led by Wichita Symphony Music Director Daniel Hege. The program begins with Polina Nazaykinskaya's symphonic poem Fenix, an emotional journey through darkness into light that adopts imagery and symbolism of the mythical bird. “As an artist, I’m drawn to the experience of overcoming adversity, surviving the loss, and with the power of inspiration and spirituality emerging from the ashes renewed, reborn and ever more compassionate…Fenish (Spanish for Phoenix) is an ancient symbol of renewal that lends a powerful and poetic image to this catharsis: majestic creature that spreads its wings and soars to new heights.” – Polina Nazaykinskaya

“New Directions” rehearsals are in full swing as some of our Orchestral Fellows prepare four world premiere pieces written by our Composition Fellows this Friday, June 26th! Composition Fellows arrived just this week and commenced various seminars with our composition faculty @lincolndecusatis followed by an intensive series of rehearsals and performance of their pieces!

These works written for small orchestra will be premiered by the NOI Philharmonic and led by our Conducting Fellows! Tickets are still available, link in bio 🎟️
