Thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The story revolves around four couples: Lincoln and Lily, Marshall and Marley, Sean and Susie, and Josh and Juliet. One thing I found funny was that every couple has names beginning with the same letter. I don't know if Kieran Scott intended it that way or if it was just a coincidence, but it certainly made me smile.

Lincoln is extremely wealthy, and he and Lily used to host the other couples once a year at their enormous residence. These getaways were the highlight of their lives, an annual tradition everyone looked forward to.

But things have changed. Lincoln has divorced Lily and is now married to Hazel. And, for a change, we have a couple whose names don't begin with the same letter!

The divorce has left Lily struggling with depression and a drinking problem, and she is currently in rehab. Lincoln, however, wants to continue the tradition. So he and Hazel invite the other three couples for another getaway, this time joined by an additional couple, Gemma and Grant.

Yes, G and G. At this point, it's beyond coincidence!

What follows is essentially a locked-room mystery. Not because the doors are actually locked, but because a devastating storm cuts off the power, makes the roads impassable, and leaves everyone stranded at the residence.

All the couples, along with the staff, are trapped inside. And then the murders begin.

Interestingly, all of this takes place in Lily's absence, but you can feel her presence throughout the novel. Her character looms large over the events, and the relationships between the couples form the heart of the story.

It was a solid 4-star read for me. And, to be fair, my reading experience might also have been clouded by the fact that I was preoccupied with other things and couldn't devote all my energy to the book.

If you enjoy locked-room mysteries, wealthy families, complicated relationships, and a house full of secrets, The Getaway is worth checking out.

After a short wait, I was finally able to pick up Lisa Jewell's newest book from the library.

The protagonist is Jane Trevally, a woman in her 50s, who has never worked a day in her life and has left behind two failed marriages. Well, those of you who have read Jewell’s previous novel Don’t Let Him In will be familiar with the enterprising Ms. Trevally. Jane lives in an enormous house in a village with her four dogs, and one day, while walking one of them, she comes across a small white dog who appears to be lost.

After tracing the dog back to its owner, Jane discovers that the woman is missing. With nothing better to do, Jane travels to London to try to find out what happened to her, accompanied by her favorite and faithful stepson, Dexter.

The book follows Jane and Dexter as they try to piece together the mystery surrounding the missing woman. In addition, as is often the case with Lisa Jewell, things are not quite what they seem.

As far as I'm concerned, Lisa Jewell is one of the best domestic thriller writers around, and It Could Have Been Her is another highly engaging addition to her collection. It's a fascinating exploration of how people can appear perfectly normal on the outside while hiding the darkest of secrets.

I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers, whatever your particular flavor of thriller might be.

The story takes place in a small town called Burnville, where the only real excitement over the course of a year is the annual fair. During one such fair, James Derek Sickler, a young man who seems to leave trouble in his wake, drifts into town.

All the girls in town are smitten with Sickler, and the story follows two of them, Alysha and Victoria, who are just about to leave for college. Both girls are completely head over heels for him, but as the story progresses, we see their mothers, Karen and Donna, trying to warn them about the manipulative Sickler.

The events then move a few years into the future, when Alicia's daughter, Josie, returns to her hometown to care for her grandmother, Karen, who is now ill. And what happens when James Sickler decides to pay Burnville another visit forms the crux of the story.

I'd been seeing posts about Iliana Xanders' Love, Mom on Instagram, which prompted me to request an ARC of Bad Intentions through NetGalley.

This turned out to be a really good and engaging thriller, with a small-town setting and a relatively contained cast of characters. And as we've come to expect from small-town thrillers, it's a place where secrets are easy to bury and not everyone is who they appear to be.

I really enjoyed this book. Despite having limited time to finish it, the characters and the events of the story stayed with me even after I had put the book down.

I'd recommend Bad Intentions to anyone who enjoys a pacey thriller set in small-town America, especially if you like stories involving secrets, manipulation, and characters with hidden motives. Thank you NetGalley, for the ARC.

T.M. Logan's books have been popping up everywhere on Instagram lately, so I decided to check out The Weekend from Libby. It had been sitting on my shelf for almost two weeks, and I finally got a chance to read it.

It's a fairly engaging thriller set in the UK. Helen and her friends have an annual tradition of spending the New Year weekend together at a rented cottage in the Dales. During one such weekend, while taking a walk through the woods, they stumble upon a huge bag of money hidden inside a cave.

Each of the three couples has their own financial problems, with Helen being the only one who seems to have a fairly straightforward outlook on the situation. They debate what to do with the money. Helen insists that they hand it over to the police, while the others have rather different opinions.

Of course, the money has been stashed there as part of a crime, and the rest of the story revolves around how the financial pressures, needs, and greed of these friends influence the decisions they make.

What I particularly liked about the book is that none of these people are criminals. They are ordinary people who find themselves in an extraordinary situation, and the novel explores how financial pressure and temptation can push people into making rash decisions and how one questionable choice can lead to another.

How Helen navigates this increasingly dangerous situation forms the crux of the story.

The Weekend is a racy, taut, and suspenseful thriller that kept me turning the pages. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers, especially stories about ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances.

This was my first book by T.M. Logan, but it certainly won't be my last. I'm looking forward to reading more of his work.

The year is 2010. Carrie Cole is ambitious and has just become a surgeon at one of the most prestigious hospitals in London. Then she happens to meet Johan, a young and charming Swedish diver who has accompanied a patient to the hospital emergency room.

Carrie has never been in a serious relationship, but she instantly falls for Johan. After a whirlwind romance, the two find themselves in Thailand just a few months later, where Johan proposes. They get married in a quick ceremony officiated by the host of their resort.

But Carrie could never have anticipated what happens next.

Johan is arrested for allegedly transporting drugs to the island and is imprisoned. Carrie is suddenly faced with an impossible choice: put her career on hold and attempt to get Johan out of a Thai prison, or walk away. Nudged ever so slightly by her mother, and the fact the Johan has confessed to the crime, she chooses the latter.

Fast-forward to 2021, and Carrie is living a very different life. She has taken a break from her career as a surgeon to care for her premature twins and is married to Robin, a loving financial advisor. Johan is a distant memory, or so she thinks. As Carrie prepares to return to her career, her present begins to collide with her past.

And that's where the story gets really interesting.

I think I've already given away my fair share of spoilers, so I'll stop there! The One Day You Were My Husband is part love story and part thriller, and Rosie Walsh does a tremendous job bringing her characters and their backstories to life.

And Rosie Walsh also reminded me why I can never be a writer. 😂 The imagination required to come up with a story like this is clearly something I was not blessed with!

I enjoyed this book tremendously and managed to finish it in just two days. This was my first Rosie Walsh book, but if she has written more, I'm definitely on the lookout for them.

This was my second Lisa Unger book, after Confessions on the 7:45, which I read quite a long time ago. I’d like to thank Edelweiss+ for providing me with an ARC of this book. I went into it with quite high expectations, and thankfully, it did not disappoint.

Ivy has a degree in creative writing but has struggled to find a job in her field, which led her to work as a nanny for a social-media content creator couple. But after an almost disastrous incident while she is watching their son at the beach, Ivy loses her job.

Just when things seem to be going from bad to worse, Evan, a real estate magnate, offers her a position as a nanny for his children. The job takes her to Fox Glenn, his remote home, where she soon discovers that the entire family is shrouded in mystery and sadness. Evan's wife is dead, and the previous nanny has mysteriously disappeared.

The novel follows Ivy as she tries to navigate this strange and unsettling situation at Fox Glenn. Telling you much more would risk giving away too much, but Lisa Unger manages to deliver a thrill-a-minute ride, told from the perspectives of three main female characters.

This was virtually unputdownable. It was a little longer than I would have liked, but the twists and turns kept me hooked right until the end.

I'd definitely recommend She Was Never Here to anyone who enjoys an edge-of-your-seat thriller packed with secrets, suspense, and plenty of twists.

Now, that was one twisty thriller!

Stephanie Prendergast and her ex-husband, Ben Williams, have a rather unique living arrangement. They met as teenagers, fell in love, and spent 26 years together before eventually getting divorced. During their marriage, they bought an old house and poured years of effort and savings into renovating it. After the divorce, however, neither could bear to part with the house. So, they decide to continue living there - together, but separately, occupying different parts of the house.

Stephanie, a former lawyer, now works as a grief counsellor. She and Ben have agreed on a set of rules to protect their privacy: they keep to their respective parts of the house, while sharing the kitchen and a few other spaces. Things begin to change when Ben falls in love with Yasmin. Eventually, she moves in with Ben, and begins to cross some of the boundaries that he had established with Stephanie.

And that's where things start getting complicated. Without giving away any spoilers, the increasingly tangled lives of Stephanie, Ben, and Yasmin form the heart of The Wife After Me.

This is such a twisty thriller. Just when you think you've figured everything out and the story is about to wrap up, another twist comes along and completely changes your perspective. I genuinely didn't see some of them coming.

I enjoyed this book so much that I managed to finish it in a single day. This was my first book by Nora Valters, but it certainly won't be my last.

⭐ Rating: 5/5

Set in a small village in Ireland, Don't Let Her In follows Gillian, a woman in her forties, a former nurse who now works from home as a mental health therapist. She and her sisters, Helen and Sheila, are very close to their aunt by marriage, Myra, whose health has been deteriorating.

When Myra moves into a nursing home, her estranged niece Lesley suddenly arrives from Glasgow with her husband, Robbie, and their two grandchildren. They quickly stake a claim to Myra's house money. Gillian becomes suspicious of their intentions when they try to prevent her from seeing Aunty Myra.

Gillian isn't about to give up without a fight. Determined to protect her aunt and make sure she is properly cared for, she begins questioning the motives of these unexpected newcomers. What follows is a tense and increasingly unsettling series of events that makes Gillian question not only the people around her but also her own perception of what is happening.

What starts as a seemingly straightforward family conflict gradually becomes something much more sinister.

This was my first book by J.M. O'Rourke, and it turned out to be a very tense and gripping little thriller. The atmosphere, family dynamics, toxic characters, and growing sense of unease kept me turning the pages, constantly wondering who could be trusted.

⭐ Rating: 5/5

A suspenseful read for anyone who enjoys psychological tension and unreliable perceptions. Definitely an author I'll be keeping an eye on!
