Artist Bio: Yvonne Pruneau is a pianist, composer, and improviser based in Detroit MI. She received a B.A. in piano performance as well as an M.Mus. in composition/theory from Wayne State University. As a performer, she is most interested in contemporary works and collaborative experiences. She is half of the experimental electronic duo Taqsim, and the resident organist of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Detroit. As a composer, Yvonne’s compositions begin as experiments and playthings that unfold into narratives and deep sound worlds often using fixed media, sampling, synthesizers, field recordings, performance art, and electro-acoustic invention. She is fascinated by all forms of performance processes and how they have been structured by, and continue to influence, our colliding ecosystems of culture. Yvonne’s art and sound-world traverse themes of extrarealism, political anxiety, nature, technology, sense experience, queerness, and transsexualism. 📸 by @jaybird.jpg_ by @noisegrowsonplums

WE BREATHED TOGETHER. Last Friday, @cadieuxstage became a living, breathing organism as @taqsim.live carried @theearandtheeye through four states of body and mind: Suffocation. Dissonance. Sublime. Volition. The room inhaled. The walls expanded and contracted. Sound moved through our bodies while images flickered across our collective nervous system. At moments we held our breath. At others, we surrendered to the pulse. An enormous thank you to @layanjsrour and @noisegrowsonplums of Taqsim for becoming the heart and lungs of this strange creature—transforming analogue and electronic instruments, field recordings and thoughtfully composed moving images into something we didn’t simply hear and see, but felt. From the constriction of Suffocation, through the tremors of Dissonance, into the opening of the Sublime and finally the release of Volition, you reminded us that listening and seeing is humanity. Much gratitude to @hiraskitchen__ for nourishing the organism and keeping our bodies very happily fed. To @_softprop and @convivialcollab for circulating the necessary fluids through the system. To everyone at Cadieux Stage, for once again giving this unruly body a place to live, breathe and make noise. And to everyone who came through the doors, listened, watched, ate, drank and gave themselves over to the experience: YOU WERE THE HEARTBEAT. Without you, it’s just a room. With you, it breathes. And finally, we exhaled. 🖤 @field_spies & @jmmackey *all photos by @_softcon by @noisegrowsonplums
Join us on August 7 for another immersive edition of The Ear and the Eye as we welcome Taqsim, the Detroit-based duo of Layan Srour and Yvonne Pruneau, for a live audiovisual performance where music and moving images are created together in real time. Named after the Arabic word for “improvisation,” Taqsim blends field recordings from Lebanon, modular synthesizers, drum machines, layered electronics, and evocative visual environments into a deeply immersive experience. Structured through four emotional movements—Suffocation, Dissonance, Sublime, and Volition—each performance unfolds uniquely, responding to the energy of the room. At the heart of their work is the question: What does home sound like? Through experimental sound and imagery, Taqsim explores home as memory, emotion, resilience, and connection. Make yourself comfortable! Bring a yoga mat, blanket, floor cushion, or pillow and experience the performance however feels right for you. 🎟 Tickets • $15 Presale • $20 At the Door We’re also excited to debut our new event poster, which will be available for purchase at the event, along with the previous two months’ posters. A huge thank you to our incredible poster designer @field_spies for creating another beautiful piece that captures the spirit of this series. We can’t wait to share it with you! Come experience an evening where sound becomes memory, images become emotion, and strangers discover the places they already share. by @noisegrowsonplums
