We bridge people and policy through the power of food. We envision a food system that every New Orleanian can be proud of, from farm to fork.

Head Start is getting a major rewrite, and you have until October 6th to comment. The proposed rule would strip protections for nutrition, health, class sizes, and more.

Our ability to thrive as residents of this City is firmly rooted in health equity.

As budget season continues, this conversation matters more than ever. We’re incredibly thankful to our panelists, Dr. Jennifer Avegno, Samantha Fleurinor, Robin Gruenfeld, Kelly Haynie, and our moderator Kevin Kellup for a meaningful discussion at last night’s Health Session of the Front Porch Lab! by @nolafoodpolicy

New month. New chapter. And some news to share! 🌱💜

I’ve joined the Board of Directors of Market Umbrella, the organization behind the Crescent City Farmers Market.

This one means a lot.

I’ve shopped the Crescent City Farmers Markets for decades. Over the years, I’ve gotten to know the farmers, fishers, food producers, and vendors, and watched businesses, families, and our local food community grow.

So when I was invited to put my name forward for this volunteer board position, saying yes felt like another way to give back to a community that has fed me for decades, in more ways than one.

And the timing couldn’t be better.

🌱 October 8: From Soil to Supper: Exploring New Orleans’ Community Food System
🌱 October 10: Gardening in Small Spaces with Sprout NOLA and its already SOLD OUT!

For Soil to Supper, Crescent City Farmers Market and Sprout NOLA are community partners, and 25% of proceeds will support Sprout NOLA’s work with small farmers across Southeast Louisiana.

Food. Community. Culture. Connection.

Those are at the heart of how I think about travel, too. Sometimes the best way to understand a place is through the people who grow, catch, make, and share its food.

🎟️ From Soil to Supper is October 8. Registration on Eventbrite.

Do you know what a cooperative is? Have you ever knowingly shopped at a co-op? If you want to learn more, join us for the next Food Policy and Practice gathering next Tuesday from 4:30 to 6pm

During the meeting, @nolafoodcoop will introduce us to the benefits and value of a food cooperative. We will also discuss the upcoming city budget hearings, get state level policy updates from @louisianafoodpolicy and leave time for community announcements.

These meetings are free and open to the public. Rice, beans, and greens from @mawinola will be served.  While we do not currently provide childcare, parents and caregivers are welcome to bring their children.

Kindly RSVP via the link in the bio. by @nolafoodpolicy

Louisiana chefs showed up, leaned in, and got to work. 🌱

We just wrapped our first OneKitchen Louisiana advocacy training in collaboration with the @beardfoundation and @nochi_grams bringing chefs together to explore how their voices, lived experiences, and leadership can help shape a stronger, more equitable food system.

Because chefs are more than what happens inside the four walls of a restaurant. They are employers, storytellers, community leaders, and trusted voices and when they understand how to use that platform for advocacy, there is real opportunity to create change.

This training was about building those tools: understanding advocacy, connecting the issues we see every day to policy, and helping chefs feel prepared to speak up for the communities they serve.

I’m incredibly proud of our OneKitchen Louisiana chefs for stepping into this work, and grateful to the James Beard Foundation for collaborating with us to create more pathways for chefs to engage, advocate, and lead.

This was the first one—and we’re just getting started. 💚 by @nolafoodpolicy

Farm to ECE is off to such a joyful start this school year! We are so grateful to be working alongside an incredible group of educators, directors, and students. The gardens are growing, and growing, and we can't wait to keep sharing the fruits (and vegetables) of everyones' labors.
