Happy “Gotcha” Day, Miriam!!

Miriam (Miri) has a story that I feel like needs to be told. We rescued her from the ARL a year ago today, and she has been a blessing to our little family. When we rescued her, they told us that she was a little over a year old. If you have met her, you know that she has quite the personality and literally cannot stop moving! (It’s wonderful when trying to go to bed let me tell you😂).

This past January, after coming home from vacation, our dog hotel employees asked us if she had any neurological disorders and we wrote it off and said no, she’s just got a lot of energy and is just crazy with the zoomies most times.

Well, about two weeks after that, we found her in our living room almost twitching in her mouth area and it was clear she was not in control of what was going on. We quickly called our vet (Dr. Sloan in Carlisle who is an absolute Gem of a doctor) and later diagnosed our Miri with Epilepsy.

Bring us to today. Miri has to take medicine every 8 hours to help stop Seizures from occurring. This medicine has been a god send and has drastically reduced her episodes to almost 0. There are definitely good days and there are some not so good days.

With the seizures we have also come to learn that she may be partially to completely blind as well which has been a learning curve. Ellie has been the best big sister ever and loves her just as much as we do.

EVERY animal deserves to be loved and given a chance. We are so thankful that we picked her up that day, and to give her the best life that she can because who knows where’d she be if we hadn’t. We love you Mir dog❤️ by @nolan_miller3

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to share Syd and I’s incredible honeymoon in Japan (I still don’t) but figured we should start somewhere. We took a 10 day trip over that had unforgettable experiences, sights and people. For the most part, we both were more focused on experiencing what was in front of us rather than capturing it.. but still have plenty of photos to share, so let’s start! Enjoy some city sights we had during the trip. by @nolan_miller3

29 just seems Golden on this girl. Still recovering from Jet Lag but this birthday we got to celebrate a little bit differently. Happy Birthday to my wife, my best friend, and my travel partner. After going on a 10 Day Honeymoon with you exploring Japan together, there is no one else I want to spend life with. I am so grateful for this life with you and think we started this journey together with a bang! by @nolan_miller3

Every year, it seems that I do RAGBRAI for various reasons. To be with friends, a little selfish, but to keep proving to myself that I can push my own limits, but most importantly, to truly look up at any point during the ride and see just how beautiful Iowa truly is.

This year has an added layer. One of our usual teammates was not able to make it because of the recent passing of his father just weeks before RAGBRAI. As you can see in most of my pictures, I am wearing a pin for Lon Laffey. This year we rode for him. Cancer sucks! It was an opportunity for us to let Lon continue to be apart of such a great ride and to support our friend Isaac and his family. This year, we rode for a bigger reason outside of ourselves. A reminder to take life one day at a time, one town at a time and one pedal at a time. Blessed to create this little RAGBRAI team into a family. Thinking of the Laffey family during these tough times. by @nolan_miller3

June 27th of 2020. 5 years! Happy Anniversary to the love of my life. You make me so happy and show me everyday that love always wins. Finally joined JT in competing in the Corporate Games Duathlon. (Congrats on 1st Place dude!)

This was my first time in an event like this and it was incredible! Iowa Games did a great job putting on this race and was cool to participate in a competitive event. Running definitely is not my strong suit but was extremely happy that I ran the race at about 1 minute a mile faster than what I was training at! 1:46:15 was my time and looking forward to getting better at it. by @nolan_miller3

The Iowa State music department invited Alumni to participate in the departments MasterWorks which was performing Mozart’s Reqium with the State Singers, Statesmen and the Iowa State Symphony. This was to celebrate Dr. Rodde’s 25th year at Iowa State.

It had been 7 years since being on stage in a choir and let me tell you it was an honor and much needed. The feelings and experience of being in an ensemble to that magnitude cannot be expressed enough. It was also the first time Syd could see me in this setting and was so happy to share this side of me to her. Got to catch up with many alums and glad to catch a picture with Vance! A weekend full of memories that I will not forget. by @nolan_miller3
