after finishing my 100-mile run in berlin, i got into an uber limping. the driver asked what happened, and when i told him, he said, “you don’t look like a runner.” i just asked, “what does a runner look like?” the rest of the ride was completely silent.recovery doesn’t only happen when you “look” like a runner. i wear my @trakgroundwear everywhere.📸: @rgosp #explore #recovery #outdoors by @nolannnj

smooth seas don’t make good sailorssaturday i had my first ever taste at a podium finish. i was holding 2nd place and it honestly was the best i’ve ever ran/fueled/felt during a race.i rushed through an aid station because 3rd was right behind and grabbed a water flask instead of my carb mix flask. such a simple mistake left me nauseous and dizzy and took me out of the race at mile 31.i’m sitting here laughing about it all because i feel like God gave me a glimpse of my potential to build my confidence, then gave me the reality check that i’m not there yet. i’ll always be open about my failure because failure is what got me where i am today. wear your heart on your sleeve 🤍📸 : @finnwithanf #explore #trailrunning #running #run by @nolannnj

traveled 5,000 miles to run a 6 mile race on an abandoned airport with @saucony this past week i spent a lot of time reflecting on friendship. beginning of last week was focused on remembering my best friend.the back half of last week was spent with new friends i’ve gained from running.it all felt metaphoric. like i was turning a page of some sorts. paying homage to the friend who shaped me and cherishing the friends that’s push me forward.thank you @saucony @saucony_eu for putting so much effort into this community. 📸 : @rubenschmitz by @nolannnj

when they took my friend away i was slippin into darkness.this marks 2 years of running 100 miles/160km in honor of my other half. 6 years ago my best friend was shot and murdered.when i was still drinking and using, celebrating his heavenly birthday just became a day i’d end up forgetting about.last year i wanted to go on a different kind of psychedelic trip, a kind of high you can only get from running on your feet for 24 hours. while running these longer distances, there’s so much time to think and deal with grief. working that out along with the challenges of simply running that long results in so much more peace and respect for yourself. the last thing Gary did on this earth was smile at a stranger and say hello.I made sure to smile and say hello to everyone i passed along this run.love you Gary, i hope i’m keeping your light alive.eternally in debt to the people who helped make this possible.thank you @essi_tesfom @sophiasbolte for spending 23hrs and some change with me :) thank you @lena.zwc for waking up for the start and keeping spirits high at the very end when i was being a brat. thank you @optimisticrunners for tossing me a kitlastly thank you @rubenschmitz for capturing the most important day out of the year for me.#running #mentalhealth #ultramarathon #explorepage #run by @nolannnj
