Happy birthday to my amazing daughter, Shanae Sinanan. She is one in not just a million, but one in 8.3 billion! She shines bright, and is such a special one, and I just can’t imagine life without her.

I was thinking today about the journey of parenting. It’s such a journey of loving and letting go. And I think as much as we love our kids when they’re babies and little ones, the journey is one where as we let go and allow them to become their own person - who God created them to be - the love we have in our hearts for them can only expand and grow. She’s moved out and married and on her own journey as her own person, but the hugs and time spent celebrating her today seemed even more precious than I think they would have been if she still lived with us at home. Each moment has become this beautiful gift, and I relish and cherish each one.

Shanae, you have my heart. Love you so much. Happy 21!!!! ♥️♥️♥️ by @nolasinanan

5 years ago today, an early morning phone call shattered my world, and the world of my family. I wouldn’t see my dad ever again. He had been taken from us too soon, the night before.

As I contemplate today… 5 years feels like such a long time, and yet it doesn’t feel like very long at all. I miss him dearly and he often pops into my mind and heart at seemingly random times throughout my days. But generally, I want to pick up the phone and ask his advice, or share a dad joke, or just talk with him - share some news like his oldest granddaughter getting engaged, and his second oldest graduating high school and reminding me so much of him by how she thinks like him and loves to fix things like he did. And there are things that remind me of him, like the plug on our vacuum that he fixed. I can’t vacuum without seeing it and thinking of him. I remember the time he shared a seemingly trivial bit of advice about wiping my countertops when it’s hard to see where it’s dirty. I can’t wipe my counters without thinking of him and remembering the words he shared. Or when I think of a dad joke or something “punny”, he instantly comes to mind.

After 5 years, most of the time when I think of him I smile with gratitude for who he was and what he imparted to me as his daughter. Time has taught my mind and heart how to cope with his loss. And then there’s still the odd time that I become overwhelmed and I have a good little cry - and then I’m ok again and move on with my day. He is not forgotten and is forever loved.

This prayer from a book of liturgies has been helpful for me to pray today. I’m thankful for the language articulated to join my heart to and pray. I feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit and hope is renewed in my heart even in the midst of feeling the sting of loss. ♥️ by @nolasinanan

It’s been an awhile since we’ve taken a vacay, just the 2 of us. Beyond grateful for the week of rest and rejuvenation. I don’t take it for granted, and often think of how big of a deal it was for my grandparents, and parents to go on a trip outside of Canada. Feeling truly blessed and seriously enjoyed celebrating our birthdays together in the sun and sand! 🏝️🌊☀️ by @nolasinanan

As we married off our oldest a few weeks ago, and today bid adieu to our youngest, on her first solo road trip as an 18-year old adult to spend the remainder of the summer in Saskatchewan working with family, I feel this in the depths of my soul. Today is not without tears - it’s so bittersweet as these humans we’ve raised have brought such joy to our home and purpose to my life. It’s part of the circle of life, to release them to find their God-given path, but my home feels very quiet today. I’ve been learning that so much of life has opposing feelings sitting at the same table. Pride and joy at who these two precious souls, @ari.baku_715 & @_aaliyashanae, have become, and a certain quiet mourning that no one prepares you for as this season of life with them in our home is coming to an end. Oh my heart… all the feels today. 🤍 by @nolasinanan

Celebrating these two turning 18 today! We call them the cousin twins cuz my sister and I delivered them on the same morning, same hospital, delivery rooms beside each other, 2.5 hours apart. So hard to believe it was 18 years ago. Doubly hard to believe that they’ve graduated high school and are looking towards their future endeavours. And these two really are inextricably linked.

Ariela leaves later this week for a summer in Sask working with my cousin’s family and spending some time with my aunt. Then we shall see what the next year holds for her.

Ariela is my hard-working, dedicated, compassionate, servant-hearted one who brings out the silly side of me like no one else. Her sense of humour and wit is awesome. She is often quiet and treasures her alone time, but each moment I get to spend with her is truly a gift. Happy Birthday sweet Ariela! I cannot imagine life without you in it. 🤍🤍🤍 by @nolasinanan

What a day at the inaugural National Day of Prayer. I currently have no words to express the immense impact on my heart, and what I believe has been a profound impact to our nation. The worship, so intentional. The repentance, heartfelt. The show of and cry for unity across our land, sincere. The honouring of those who’ve done before us - and encouragement for the generations coming after, moving. My heart is moved.

Lord, hold our dominion in your loving care. God keep our land, glorious and free. O Canada we stand on guard for thee. 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦 by @nolasinanan

Congratulations to my sweet girl! She graduated and finished all her exams last week! My heart is so full and I’m so proud of her and who she has become. When she was still in the womb, it was prophesied over her that she would bring joy and laughter to our family, and it has proved true over and over again. She may seem quiet and reserved if you don’t know her well, but I have laughed more with her than with any other human I know. She is also so kind and compassionate, sees the needs of others, often before they see it for themselves, and springs into action to help meet thosee needs. She has the most amazing work ethic and I seriously love how her brain works. I cannot wait to see where this next stage in her journey takes her.

Today @worship_is_warfare and I celebrate 26 years! We celebrated together a few days ago, as Joe is travelling for a mission trip today. Continually choosing the one I love and made a covenant with means turning towards each other, working through issues together, continuing to grow individually and together as a couple, keeping short accounts, humbling ourselves to apologize when we’ve had misunderstandings and unintentionally hurt the other. It means finding joy together, and working towards common goals. It means covering each others weaknesses. It means picking up the slack in seasons when the other is weighed down or burdened - and borrowing from each others strengths when you need it. It means so many things, but ultimately, you just keep choosing each other in the good times, and the challenging times. And definitely leaning on Holy Spirit through it all.

These 26 years have taught me so much, and I still find I have so much to learn. But it’s so worth it to journey through this adventurous life with you Joe. I chose you then, and I choose you all over again today. ♥️ by @nolasinanan
